:::No worries. It's pretty much the same with any templated welcome. It doesn't matter much if it's placed by a bot or twinkle, as long as they are unpersonal, they are, in my opinion, unhelpfull. A good welcome should be something along the lines of 'I saw your edits on x, and it looks good. You might want to check out policy/guideline y though, it might help with editing." or at least something that treats the audience the way we want to see them, as the 'polite, thoughtful, smart, geeky people, trying only to do something which is undoubtedly good in the world: write and give away a free encyclopedia' we would like our editors to be. Formal and overpolite language never helped any of those people much. [[Special:Contributions/213.132.171.210|213.132.171.210]] ([[User talk:213.132.171.210#top|talk]]) 16:33, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Your submission at Articles for creation

I noticed your submission in Articles for creation, Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Pizza as a vegetable. Thanks! It will be reviewed by a volunteer soon.

Before it can be added to Wikipedia, your submission should have references. All articles on Wikipedia should have inline, numbered references after facts, showing the 'reliable source' (a newspaper, book, etc.) where the information can be checked, so that all information is verifiable.

Here's a video tutorial - hit play, then right-click for "full screen".

Here's an example of how to add references:

Chzz is 98 years old.<ref> "The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009. </ref>

He likes tea.<ref> Smith, John. "[http://foonews.com/Article42 Interview with Chzz]", Foo News, 1 April 2010. Retrieved 2011-05-22. </ref>

== References ==

{{reflist}}

That makes the references automatically display as small numbers[1] which will link to the details in the section titled == References == at the end. You can see that example in action here.

Please add references to your submission, which will be reviewed as soon as possible. See also, Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners. If you need any help, just put {{helpme}} at the end of this page, followed by a question or get into our live help chat chanel at #wikipedia-en-help connect.

Wow, welcomed by an automated greeter mechanism. Thanks for taking the time in your busy task-scheduler to come to my talkpage and put an automated (and irrelevant) message there. I feel so welcome now. 213.132.171.210 (talk) 10:49, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry you got the inappropriate message. It's a fairly new bot, and I'm still working to improve it. I'm now going to add further code so it ignores any AFC's that are redirects, and ignores any very short submissions. Apologies once again,  Chzz  ►  16:23, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. 213.132.171.210 (talk) 16:33, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I just wanted to inform you that I have accepted your redirect request at Articles for Creation/Redirects. I also noticed that you have reviewed several submissions. Thanks for helping out. If you need anything else done, I would be happy to help. Best, Alpha_Quadrant (talk) 16:10, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Alpha, thanks for the note, but I'm good. We should really get rid of these condesending automated welcome messages though. The welcome templates are bad enough as it is when they are placed by editors (really, it's just a handfull of lines which would be better already, and, when you take just a little more effort, there should be a comment on 1 or 2 of the goodish edits), but in my opinion, they add absolutely nothing when placed by a bot. Well, enough of my grumpyness, and thanks for the hand! 213.132.171.210 (talk) 16:24, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The bot is designed to inform new editors about potential sourcing problems with submissions. Lacking proper sourcing is the most common reason an AfC submission is declined. The bot has had quite a bit of success. I have informed the bot operator of the bot error. It should be resolved soon. Best, Alpha_Quadrant (talk) 16:48, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
