You may find it helpful while reading or editing articles to look at a bibliography of Race Citations, posted for the use of all Wikipedians who have occasion to edit articles on race relations and related issues. I happen to have circulating access to a huge academic research library system at a university with an active research program in these issues (and to other academic libraries in the same large metropolitan area) and have been researching these issues sporadically since 1989. Seriously?

Race is an issue of far more than just pigmentation. You can't just darken your skin and pass for black, the facial features are completely different (otherwise no-one would consider Sinbad "black." I love the assumptions there. I was asking if things were really that different back then that they cared more about pigment than facial features, the way race is judged today. It's careless of you to assume I must be a racist redneck because I was asking about them.
