Graffiti6 is a pop/rock duo founded in London in 2008.[1] The duo are made up of Jamie Scott (lead vocals) and Tommy "D" Danvers (producer and songwriter).[2]Graffiti6 are known for their "Gnarls Barkley-esque blend of characterful voice and crisp, intricate groove created from an infectious alliance of electric piano and offbeat guitar".[3].

History

Singer/songwriter Jamie Scott and Producer/songwriter Tommy D started collaborating in 2008 both London-born multi-instrumentalists who began making music together in 2009 and decided to call the resulting collaboration Graffiti6. (A third member, the British artist and illustrator Jimi Crayon, designs all of Graffiti6’s artwork and is responsible for their bold logo and Technicolor visuals.)[4]

Scott was considering working with new collaborators as a way to repackage the album when an A&R executive at Polydor suggested he meet Danvers, who had remixed tracks by Michael Jackson and Björk, and arranged and orchestrated concerts and recordings, along with his wife, for Kanye West, Jay-Z, Adele, Beyoncé, and Noel Gallagher, among others.[5] Following the production of "I'm Too Sexy" for a unsigned band called Right Said Fred, (which debuted at No. 1 in the U.S. and hit the Top 10 in nine countries), Danvers was more interested in writing which led to his penning several songs for KT Tunstall, Corinne Bailey Rae, Janet Jackson, and Kylie Minogue. “Jamie came along soon after that,” Danvers says.[6]

Jamie Scott (of Jamie Scott & The Town who toured with Alicia Keys and Kelly Clarkson previously)[7] introduced Danvers to "an idea...for a folk thing", which would later become the track "Stare Into the Sun".[8] The pair recorded the track "Stare Into the Sun" on acoustic guitar, to which when Scott returned from a holiday found that Danvers had "done a bit of work on the track", (which Scott was going to put on his solo album)[9]. Fuming, Scott listened to the track a few times, and decided that "[he] loved it"[10]. Sony/ATV Music Publishing[11] submitted the song to The Sun newspaper. The track was later chosen as the soundtrack for a TV ad campaign for The Sun newspaper.[12]

Rather than repackage Scott’s solo album and have Danvers produce it, the two decided to start writing original material together.[13] The exposure that the duo received got from the campaign encouraged them to write and record even more music, including “Annie You Save Me,” “Free” and “Stone In My Heart”. They also have covered versions of Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep” and Black Eyed Peas’ “I Got A Feeling.”[14]

The band decided to put out their own music on their own label. The EP “Stone In My Heart” was released in March 2010 and single "Annie You Save Me" in July 2010.[15]

The band was named New Band Of The Day at The Guardian newspaper (UK)[16] and an Artist to Watch at LP33.[17]

The duo released the EP "Colours" on their own NWFree Music label in the U.K. in October 2010. The band signed to Capitol Records in the USA in April 2011, which will release a digital EP in June.[18]

Their songs have already been heard on such shows as Grey's Anatomy, Covert Affairs, CSI: NY, One Tree Hill, VH1's Basketball Wives, VH1's Football Wives, , Suits, Free Agents, The Secret Circle, FIFA 12.[19] They were nominated the week of November 1, 2010, for mtvU's The Freshman title.[20] They have been made MTV's Push Artists and Ones to Watch in 2011 by MTV and The New York Post.

Graffiti6 have just been chosen as VH1's You Ought To Know Artists for March 2012. They have performed at the Summer Well festival in Buftea, Romania.
