Hitman: Absolution is an upcoming third person shooter being developed by IO Interactive and published by Square Enix.[1] It is the upcoming fifth entry in the Hitman game series, and will run on IO Interactive's proprietary Glacier 2 game engine. The developers have confrimed that Absolution will feature different gameplay than previous installments, with a greater focus on action and gunplay.[2] . It has been set for a November 20, 2012 release.

Gameplay

  • It has been confirmed that the game will take place in the US.[3]
  • The new title will feature an online option.[4]
  • The game will feature "instinct mode" which will allow 47 to predict enemy patrol routes, much like Batman: Arkham Asylum.[5]

Synopsis

Plot

Hitman: Blood Money ended with Diana helping Agent 47 fake his death, in order for him to escape The Franchise. 47 killed their leader, former FBI director Alexander Leland Cayne, though he was part of a larger secret society called Alpha Zerox. Diana and the rest of ICA do not know 47's whereabouts, nor does the player for certain - though the last scene shows 47 entering an Asian establishment, asking suspiciously what they have to offer, "preferably in the back". The first in-depth trailer for the game shows Agent 47 storming a safehouse, and confronting Diana while she is showering. 47 is "betrayed by those he once trusted and now hunted by the police, he suddenly finds himself at the center of a dark conspiracy and must embark on a personal journey through a corrupt and twisted world, in his search for the truth". At least one portion of the game will be set in Chicago, but it has been confirmed that the rest of the game will take place within the US. Hitman: Absolution is not set in a specific Hitman timeline.[6] Confirmed plot details include series protagonist Agent 47 assassinating his former International Contract Agency handler Diana Burnwood early in the game[6] and the antagonist identified as Blake Dexter, a new character to the series. The character will be voiced by Keith Carradine.[7] There will be a significant amount of blood and gore in Hitman: Absolution.

Development

Though plans to continue the Hitman franchise were first announced in 2007,[11] it was not until May 2009 that Eidos confirmed the game was in development.[12] Certain plot details for the game were rumored in 2009, stating that the game's story would lead Agent 47 to a low point from which he would have to rebuild himself.[13] On April 20, 2011, Square Enix filed the trademark for the name Hitman: Absolution in Europe, leading sites to speculate that it would be the name of the fifth Hitman game.[14] On May 6, 2011, a teaser trailer[15] was released, confirming the title: Hitman Absolution. The trailer briefly showed Agent 47 attaching a suppressor and a rattle snake coiled around his signature Silverballer pistol.[16] It has been reported the game will be a "familiar and yet significantly different experience from other Hitman games."[17] On October 9, 2011, a full gameplay trailer entitled "Run for Your Life" was released.[18]

Soundtrack

The original soundtrack for the game is composed by Peter Kyed and Peter Peter, replacing the game's previous composer, Jesper Kyd.[19]

Marketing

The Professional Edition of Hitman Absolution features Professional Clamshell packaging for the game, a Hitman art book, Making of DVD and the "Agency Gun Pack" DLC.[20]

Hitman: Sniper Challenge, a standalone experience will be an exclusive bonus available only to those who pre-order Hitman: Absolution from Gamestop. A code supplied at the time of pre-order will be redeemable via PS Store, Xbox Live and PC. Hitman: Sniper Challenge will not be available via any other ways. While the console version launches worldwide on May 15, 2012, the PC version will be released on August 1.[21][22]
