Edward Duncan Ernest "Edd" Gould (28 October 1988 – 25 March 2012) was a YouTube user and animator. He was the creator of the hit YouTube animation series Eddsworld.[1]

Early Life and Career

Edd Gould was born on 28 October 1988 and before Gould started animating when he grew up he always had a habit of drawing his friends into comics. In secondary school he had a group he called "Edd's World" most likely inspired by Wayne's World.

Animations and Youtube

Gould began animating using the GIF animation program. In 2002 he abandoned the program and moved to Macromedia Flash, with his first Newgrounds entry in 2003.[citation needed] Learning the basics of computer flash animation from Lavalle Lee (a flash animator and web designer), Gould went on to create a nine-episode series called Bendee, featuring stick figures.[citation needed] Moving on to full bodied characters, Gould abandoned the Bendee series and characters to focus on the current Eddsworld characters. Gould studied as an independent animator at the University for the Creative Arts, Maidstone, England.[citation needed] He later coined a personal catchphrase "It's pretty swell" that became popular with his fan base. He voiced the "I Like Trains kid" in the popular 'asdfmovie' videos on YouTube.[citation needed]

Eddsworld

Around 2004 Gould stopped making less stick animations and more character based things, and by the end he made the first Eddsworld 'crew' animation, "Eddsworld Xmas Special 2004", which had mixed success. He than made "The Dudette Next Door" and it got him many fans and started snowballing from there.

He then met Matt Hargraves at a sports day event and then a few days later they became friends and Gould went on with Matt and the popular animation "Eddsworld Zombeh Attack" had Matt appear in it. Gould then met Thomas Ridgewell online, shortly after he started making stick animations. Ridgewell was a fan who added him on a messaging service when Gould made stick animations. Ridgewell sent Gould fan art and his work.

In late 2004, Ridgewell was part of the "Eddsworld Crew". He met Tord Larsson online the same way he met Tom, only on Newgrounds. He liked Goulds animation and he was eventually in the group. After a while Edd had internet problems and he left Tom and Tord to talk to each other. But then from a while Tom and Tord talked to each other and it reached the point in which they didn't like each other that much. But when Edd came back Tord left Eddsworld right after his animation "Moving Targets" was finished over three years ago because Tord wanted to pursue his own ambitions and career. So Edd, Tom, and Matt continued to work on the future of Eddsworld. Ever since then Edd Gould has been popular all over the internet.

Death

On 16 April 2011, Gould revealed he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a cancer of the white blood cells. This was the second time he had been diagnosed with this illness. He posted a video on YouTube entitled "Edd vs Cancer" which featured himself, Tom Ridgewell, and Matt Hargreaves discussing the diagnosis. On the morning of 25 March 2012, Gould died from leukemia. Ridgewell and Hargreaves announced Gould's death in a short video "R.I.P Edd Gould (1988–2012)" [2] on 27 March 2012. At the closing screen, Ridgewell stated that "Edd may be gone, but his world will keep on spinning". Gould's funeral was held on 10 April 2012. According to Tom's Vokle, Edd was cremated (Ridgewell held up a card from the local crematorium). He was an inspiration to thousands of people. "Edd may be gone, but his world will keep on spinning." The last Eddisode he wrote and partially animated before his death, "Space Face Part 1", was released on YouTube on June 2, 2012.[3] Further episodes will be directed by Ridgewell and animated by Paul Ter Voorde, with all profits from ad revenue and merchandise going towards charity.
