"Highway Unicorn (Road to Love)" is a song by American recording artist Lady Gaga from her second studio album, Born This Way (2011). The song is written and produced by Lady Gaga, DJ White Shadow, and Fernando Garibay.

Background

NME reported that the song will have "a soaring melody, nods to Springsteen and an industrial techno production represent the blueprint for ‘Born This Way’. A unicorn is mentioned." Gaga also said that "The sax in ['Highway Unicorn (Road to Love)'] and in ‘Hair’ and in ‘Edge of Glory’ – is not just there for no reason. [She] grew up listening to much Springsteen and Billy Joel, so in a way, it represents [her] innocence." Gaga revealed on twitter that the song was about herself, traveling on the road with nothing but a dream.[5]

Critical reception

"Highway Unicorn (Road to Love)" received mixed to positive reviews from most critics. Cristin Maher of Pop Crush gave the song four and a half out of five stars saying, "the lyrics to ‘Highway Unicorn’ may be a little too cheesy for some pop fans, but any one who is a fan of Gaga is sure to love this one.[6]

Chart performance

"Highway Unicorn (Road to Love)" debuted and peaked at 27 on Billboard's Hot Dance/Electronic Digital Songs on the week ending in June 11, 2011 where it stayed for one week. [7]
