Giovanni-Guy Yann Sio (born March 31, 1989 in Saint-Sébastien-sur-Loire^[1]) is a French footballer currently playing for FC Augsburg on loan from VfL Wolfsburg.

Career

Sio began his career with FC Nantes^[2] and joined in summer 2007 to Real Sociedad B after Nantes released him,^[3] who was promoted in summer 2008 to the Segunda División team^[4] Sio signed a two year deal with an option for a third year^[5]. Sio made his debut for the club, coming on as a substitute in a 2-2 draw against Real Zaragoza. Since his debut, manager Juan Manuel Lillo put him into the first team and made 3 appearance (2 league and 1 league cup). At the end of the season, Sio was released by the club with the club decided not to exercise its option to extend the Sio's contract.

After being released by Real Sociedad but on 2 September 2009, FC Sion signed the French forward from Real Sociedad.^[6] Since signing for the club, Sio was sent to the club's reserve in his first season where he made a impressive form making 20 appearance and scored 18. Although playing in the reserve, Sio made 1 appearance in the first team. The next season, Sio performance in the reserve led him being promoted in the first team and start to play regularly in the league. On 8 August 2010, Sio made his debut for the club in a 2-0 win over AC Bellinzona and setting up a goal for Aleksandar Prijović. Two weeks on, Sio scored his first goal and made a double assist for Goran Obradović, scoring two goals in a 3-2 win over FC Luzern. Throughout the season, the club won the Swiss Cup with Sio scored the opener in a 2-0 win over Neuchâtel Xamax, processing qualified for the play-off round of the UEFA Europa League. Sio made a impressive performance, making 34 appearance and scored 13. The following season, Sio continued to continued to make a impressing performance for the club.

In January 2012, Sio joined VfL Wolfsburg for worth €5,800,000, signing a four year deal keeping him until 2016^[7]. On 21 January 2012, Sio made his debut for Wolfsburg, coming on as a substitute for Koo Ja-Cheol, in a 1-0 win over FC Köln. Sio went on to make 9 appearance later in his first half of the season. The following season, Sio find himself out of the first team. In order to get a first team experience, he was sent to FC Augsburg on 10 July 2012 until the end of the 2012-13 campaign on loan deal.^[8]

International Career

Sio is eligible to play for both France or Ivory Coast after holding both nationally. Sio is also former member of the France national football team, he presented his country at U-15, U-16 and U-17.^[9] Sio was also called up to the Ivory Coast u20 squad for the 2010 Toulon Tournament.
