Jim McDonagh[edit]

In realtion to your comments about my entry on this person "still unsourced, still too much detail for this article" I happen to be related to him and grew up in the local area and I knew his Father when he was a live I also knew his brother too from when I lived in the area. So please don't just assume things and undo my information. What right have you to say that it is "still too much detail for this article" do you own it or something? --Man From Midfield (talk) 15 September 2017 (UTC)

Why do not you get something more useful to do? It is protecting vandal and bothering collaborating here.--Josepolivares (talk) 3 August 2016 (UTC)

Career stats tables[edit]

Hi. Thanks for your constructive advice on referencing football stats. Had (slowly) been realising the limitations myself. Will use correct soccerway ref from now on, cheers.

If you have the time, there are one or two other questions. ="x" or =x What's the difference? If there's no difference, why do so many people use the quotes?

No difference, AFAIK. Possibly a legacy issue: I'm no expert on HTML markup of years gone by, or how closely the implementation of wiki-markup followed it, but it could be that the quotes were required in the past and no longer are.

If there's no difference, why change either way?

Personal prejudice taste? Or consistency, if usage differs within the same table.

Is there a real problem with using {{fb team}} template? Seems easy; which is suspicious in itself!

When you want to refer to a template without calling it, use the markup [[Template:fb team]] or {{tlx|fb team}}, both of which generate something readable: Template:fb team or {{fb team}}.

There have been umpteen instances of consensus to get rid of the fb team templates – search for "fb team" via the "search archives" box on WT:FOOTY – because they add little and clutter the pages they're used in with template calls, which can cause loading and execution issues in large pages. Nobody's actually done the work involved yet, but it could still happen... As to ease, it's actually easier IMO to just copypaste the link from elsewhere in the article.

Why do many tables (including the one in the guideline) use vcentre at the beginning of cells when the whole table is centered?

Again, possibly a legacy issue. Perhaps browser defaults used to differ. Or wiki implementation used to default to something else. Dunno.

Anyway, cheers once again. Have a good day. Green daemon (talk) 10:58, 30 July 2017 (UTC) Green daemon (talk) 10:58, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

@Green daemon: Replied here for ease of dealing with multiple questions. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:34, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

AFC Bournemouth[edit]

Good morning to you, fellow user,

i posed @Mattythewhite: a question regarding this football club, and he kindly redirected me to you. I noticed, in passage i'd have to admit, a discussion being held about the organization, but maybe there have been some developments i don't know of (i.e. now, are we not even allowed to compress the club's name in the infobox?).

Cheers, thanks in advance --Quite A Character (talk) 06:36, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

@Quite A Character: There are two Bournemouth clubs: Bournemouth F.C. is a well-known non-league club founded in 1875 and still going, and AFC Bournemouth is the league club. That club's name is AFC Bournemouth, not Bournemouth: see e.g. the BBC's list of teams, where it's listed above Arsenal alphabetically, or the Premier League's squad lists, where its badge at the top of the page is first in line, and its squad appears first in the list, under AFC Bournemouth where none of the other clubs have their F.C. suffix.
It's acceptable to omit the AFC in prose once context has been established, but not otherwise. The list of clubs in the infobox is there as an unambiguous, contextless, at-a-glance summary of a player's career, so that's what we should be showing the reader: the unambiguous name of this club is AFC Bournemouth. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 08:02, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

I see...point taken all the way, thank you very much for the thorough explanation :) Cheers, continue the good work --Quite A Character (talk) 08:48, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
