Thy Art Is Murder are an Australian deathcore band from Sydney, Australia. The band formed in 2005 and have released two EPs and one full-length album through Skulls N Bones Records; a local Australian extreme metal label that subsides with Metal Blade. The band, however, are currently signed to Halfcut Records who will distribute their second full length album titled Hate later this year.

Thy Art Is Murder have received radio airplay on stations such as Triple J, had their EP Infinite Death reach position no. 10 on the AIR Charts[1] and have garnered a wide fanbase in the US, the UK and Germany despite having not toured in the US yet.

History

Formed in 2005, the group originally consisted of vocalist Brendan Van Ryn, guitarists Gary Markowski and Sean Delander, bassist Josh King and drummer Lee Stanton. Building on a loyal following in Western Sydney's deathcore scene, they recorded a three track demo This Hole Isn't Deep Enough for the Twelve Of You. They returned to the studio in 2008 record their second EP Infinite Death, which gained them further attention for Van Ryn's misogynistic lyrics and song-titles .[2][3]

Following two years of relentless national touring, Van Ryn left the group due to creative differences and an inability to keep up with their evolving death metal sound. His departure was announced in 2008.[4] Thy Art Is Murder searched for a year for a new vocalist, until finding Chris "CJ" McMahon from Sydney metalcore band Vegas in Ruins. The band were so impressed with his death growl vocals that he was incepted into the band during 2009. Bassist Mick Lowe replaced King shortly before the band began recording their first full-length album The Adversary, released in 2010. After signing with major label Metal Blade Records, Canadian death metal band Despised Icon announced that Thy Art Is Murder and The Red Shore would join them on the Australian leg of their farewell tour.

2011 saw further line-up changes, with Markowski and Lowe both leaving the group. Delander decided to switch duties from guitar to bass, making way for Andy Marsh and Tom Brown from Brisbane deathcore band The Ailment as replacement guitarists. Following the band's first European tour in 2012 with War from a Harlots Mouth and As Blood Runs Black, the band travelled to New York City in the United States to record their second album with producer Will Putney at the The Machine Shop. The album, titled Hate, is expected to be released on October 19, 2012. A song from the album will premiere on radio station Triple J's The Racket on September 18.[5]
