Scott Allan (born 28 November 1991) is a Scottish footballer who plays as a midfielder for Portsmouth on loan from West Bromwich Albion.

Allan previously played in Scotland with Dundee United and had loan spells with Forfar Athletic and Milton Keynes Dons. He is also a Scotland youth international, having represented his country at Under-17 and Under-21 level.

Early life

Allan was born in Glasgow, and was a pupil at Rosshall Academy in Crookston until 2008.[1]

Club career

Dundee United

Allan joined Dundee United at the age of 10, and signed a full-time contract in January 2008.[1] In September 2008 he represented United against Montrose in a Forfarshire Cup tie.[2]

Forfar (loan)

Allan signed for Forfar in September 2010 on an emergency loan until 30 October 2010.[1] He made his debut for them in a Second Division league fixture against Alloa on 2 September 2010.[3] In total he made four league appearances for Forfar, scoring one goal for them, in his last game for the club on 30 October 2010 against Livingston.[4]

Return to Dundee United

After returning to United, Allan was named on the bench for four SPL fixtures during the 2010–11 season but did not make an appearance.[5] He made his debut for United on 14 July 2011, as a substitute in their 1–0, Europa League, defeat against Śląsk Wrocław.[6] He made his SPL debut at Tynecastle Stadium in an away victory for Dundee United on 31 July 2011, playing 83 minutes.[7] Contract negotiations between Allan, whose deal expired at the end of the 2011–12 season, and United broke down in September 2011. It was reported that he was asking for £1,600 per week, which would have made him the third highest earner at the club.[8] Several clubs, including Rangers, Celtic and Newcastle United, expressed an interest in signing Allan.[9]

West Bromwich Albion

In December 2011, United agreed a deal with West Bromwich Albion.[10] Allan completed his move to West Bromwich Albion on 9 January 2012.[11]

Portsmouth (loan)

In February 2012, he joined Championship side Portsmouth on a 28-day youth loan.[12] His debut in English football came on 25 February for Portsmouth, when he featured in the starting lineup playing 76 minutes in scoreless draw at home to Leeds United.[13] He then extended his deal by another 28 days on Thursday 22 March 2012.[14] He scored his first goal for Portsmouth and set up a goal for Greg Halford in a 2-1 win against Crystal Palace on 17 April 2012.[15]

On the 29th of October 2012, after little success with MK Dons, West Brom sent Allan back to Portsmouth.[16] Shortly signing for Portsmouth, Allan made his debut in a 1-0 loss against Sheffield United, playing 90 minutes. Weeks later, Allan scored on his return in a 3-2 loss against Leyton Orient.[17] After the game, the club revealed they are on the verge of extending Allan's loan spell[18] and it was successfully negotatied for another month[19]

MK Dons (loan)

After his loan at Portsmouth, Allan was linked with a loan move with Crystal Palace[20]. However, the move was fallen though[21].

On the 29 September 2012, Allan joined League One side MK Dons on a one-month loan deal.[22] He made his debut against Crewe Alexandra in a 1–0 victory[23].

International career

Allan has played youth football for Scotland.[24] He made his debut for the Scotland national under-21 football team on 10 August 2011, against Norway.[25]

Personal life

Incident in Queen Street, Glasgow

Allan was charged with assault on 4 November 2010 after an incident on Queen Street in Glasgow which left two men needing hospital treatment.[26] The incident also involved a number of Allan's Dundee United teammates: Danny Swanson (who was knocked unconscious), Barry Douglas, David Goodwillie and former Dundee United players Matthew Flynn and John Friel, as well as a passer-by.[27] The assault charges were dropped on 24 June 2011 as Crown Counsel decided there should be no further proceedings against Scott Allan on the basis of insufficient evidence.[28]

Incident in Waverley Road, Southsea

On Friday 2 November 2012 Allan was reversing out of a driveway in Portsmouth when he hit a 53 year old man. The victim was initially taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital before being tranferred to Southampton. [29] Coincidently he gained a 3 match ban the following day for a straight red card.
