Criticism of XML

Hello, I tried to create a new article with the list of critics for the XML article (to remove the bloat), but it is in danger of being reincorporated in the main article. Lawrence

Hi. If "nobody knows what this is about", then how it can be there? Just in case? As I wrote in the talk page it seems to me that much of the chapter has obvious OR issues. What do you believe? To me, everybody can have an opinion about his sexuality but he needs refs to write about it. And according to the WP policy, that, cannot be primary sources since we are supposedly not authors or researchers but encyclopaedia's writers using OR, not writting OR. I would appreciate your opinion about, preferably given in the article's talk page as to give the opportunity to other editors to participate in the discussion. I cannot call myself a L. scholar but I do believe that arguments like that his rape is disputed because the officer had possibly sodomized him, lived an honourable post war life is not OR, is just stupidity. To be honest with you I must say that I believe that L. during the last part of his life became annoying to many, both persons and organized interests, and in some extent this continued until the present days; if you understand what I mean. For this reason I also suspect that he became an easy target for discrediting efforts even during his life, and his questionable personal life was the most efficient way to that. But I may be wrong. Anyway I will be happy to participate in the discussion and I will be all eyes to see more of you in the discussion you want to open. Also feel free to use my talk page for anything that I may be helpful in your effort. Take your time, I will refrain from any edits until you will be happy with the refs you want to find. Unicode and XML

XML history

Hi Tim, a bit confused to see your edits dtd 15 Sep. '11 weeks' are from Jon Bosak's paper that was linked (there's very little wiggle room considering that work started at the end of August and SGML'96 opened on Nov 18). In case you have different recollections wrt to start and/or end of that initial work (since you corrected that part), what are your own estimates?
Another thing, I think history section is somewhat sloppily written and could be better (see my comments on the talk page). Do you agree? Andy Monakov (talk) 13:00, 19 September 2011 (UTC)

ongoing lawrence

I read your 'ongoing' essay on lawrence but could not see any way to comment there.

Firstly, perhaps, you list a reference to Lawrence desiring to be beaten to the point of ejacualtion. To the best of my knowledge this is unusual behaviour, but I find it difficult to square with a claim that someone is asexual. More suggestive that the nature of his sexuality was something he was unlikely to admit to anyone. In which light, his own denials even to close friends about his sexuality might also be regarded as questionable. There are some things you do not discuss with anyone. Vyvyan Richard's comment regarding Lawrence's apparent unawareness of Richard's affections might signify instead Lawrence's way of dealing with an affection he did not reciprocate but nor did he wish to reject. Indeed he might have welcomed such attentions on condition he did not have to respond to them. In a complex situation like this Lawrence might deliberately have been separating Richards from his sexual side, not wishing to change their relationship into something rather darker, or which he felt Richards might not have been able to accept. Obviously, i have no evidence for this, but I can think of a real life example. My point is one which perhaps you have concluded yourself, the evidence is inadequate. You also quote lawrence "It doesn’t feel to me nearly so bad as my true story.” I wouldnt assume he was referring to the documented incident at Dera'a, which is the one he admits to, perhaps because it was entirely involuntary and therefore respectable.

The passages you quote where Lawrence suggests that inequality of men and women makes relationships between them impossible, "Yet this same agreement, by denying equality of sex, made love, companionship and friendliness impossible between man and woman," seems to me to fly in the face of reality. Men and women are drawn together by mutual attraction despite heaven and earth standing between them, yet Lawrence does not seem to understand this. I couldnt say whether Lawrence is rationalising for the benefit of the sensibilities of his readers, or for his own conscience, but it sounds to me like a rationalisation of a total failure to be drawn to women while bonding with men.

As to poem to SA, I see wiki says it was significantly written by Graves. Sounds like anyone trying to perceive its true meaning needs to look at the version before Graves input. I dont suppose we have this?

Abstinence: the quotes are rather odd. "For myself, I haven’t tried it, & hope not to.” So clearly there is some situation in which he might though he hopes it will not occur. "the impulse strong enough to touch another creature has not yet been born in me.” I found a longer version of this, "I suppose you will not print it? Not that it anywhere says too much: but it shows far more than it says: and these things are mysteries. The turks, as you probably know (or have guessed, through the reticence of the Seven Pillars) did it to me, by force: and since then I have gone about whimpering to myself Unclean, unclean. Now I don't know. Perhaps there is another side, your side, of the story. I couldnt ever do it, I believe: the impulse strong enough to make me touch another creature has not yet been born in me: but perhaps in surrender to such a figure as your death there might be a greater realisation - and thereby a more final destruction - of the body than any loneliness can reach." Doesnt sound like someone with a carnal relationship behind him, but does sound like someone badly scarred by this experience. As indeed you might be.
