Monuments Men is an upcoming American drama film co-written, produced and directed by George Clooney and starring Matt Damon, Clooney, and Cate Blanchett. Based on the book The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History by Robert M. Edsel, the film will concern the story of the Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives program, an Allied group, tasked with saving pieces of art and other culturally important items before their destruction by Hitler during World War II.[1][2]
The film, set to be co-produced by Columbia Pictures/20th Century Fox and Siebente Babelsberg, is scheduled to be released on December 18, 2013.[3]

Production
Principal photography began in early March 2013 at the Babelsberg Studios in Potsdam, Germany, and in the Berlin-Brandenburg region and the Harz. Especially the City of Osterwieck is an important place for the outdoor scenes. A cast of thousands is needed for the WWII military scenes.[4][5] Some of the scenes including flights and American war base footage was filmed at the Imperial War Museum Duxford, Cambridgeshire, UK.[6]
Filming is scheduled to last until the end of June 2013, where it will wrap up in the United Kingdom.[3]
Release
The release date for the movie is December 18, 2013.[7]
