Cold Desert is included as 16th biosphere reserves of India in 2009 under UNESCO's MAB (Man And Biosphere Reserve) program. It includes in itself Pin Valley National Park and surroundings; Chandratal and Sarchu & Kibber Wildlife Sancturary in Himachal Pradesh, India. It has an area of 7770 Sqr Km.

Location

The name of the cold desert is ladakh. The cold deserts of India are located in the lap of the Himalayas. These deserts are not affected by the Indian monsoon because they lie in the rain-shadow of the Himalayan mountains. Some cold deserts are found in places like south africa.
