Laurence Kirwan, MD FRCS, a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, was born in Liverpool in 1952 and specializes in Aesthetic-Reconstructive Plastic Surgery of the face, breast and body. He is an international expert for Breast Surgery who designed the ["Breast Auto-augmentation"] technique[1][2], and operated Ulrika Jonsson for her Breast Reduction[3].

Mentioned by Hello Magazine [4], the Dailymail [5], the Mirror [6], the London Evening Standard [7], and by the New York Times [8] for facial treatments, featured by the BBC TV programs about the PIP[9] implants scandal [10] [11], and about his own techniques allowing better results in breast auto-augmentation and breast reduction, international scientific reviews - the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, the Canadian Journal of Plastic Surgery - and congresses, have published and comunicated about his work, which is now recognized worldwide.


Education and Career

Dr Kirwan graduated from the Victoria University of Manchester. (1974). He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England since 1979, he trained in General Surgery at the Maimonides Medical Center in New York, and was a Resident at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. (1981-1982). Dr. Laurence Kirwan was a resident in Plastic Surgery in Kansas City University of Missouri (1985-1987) and a Fellow in Hand Surgery at the University of Colorado (1984-1985)[12].

Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ASPS), he has a Plastic Surgery practice in Park Avenue, New York and Norwalk, Connecticut in the United States (USA) since 1987, and in Harley Street London, England, UK (United Kingdom) since 1998. He is a Clinical Instructor for the Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship at New York Eye & Ear Infirmary [13] where he is a Member of the Plastic Surgery Section. In 1996 Laurence Kirwan was appointed a Professor of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (University of Belgrade) at the International School of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. .

Dr Kirwan donates to the University of California, San Diego, Neurosciences Institute where Prof. William Mobley does research into Down Syndrome, since his 7-year-old Ophelia has Down Syndrome (see his book. "Ophelia Blue eyes").

In 1989 he coordinated several charity surgery missions [14] to Yerevan, Armenia after the earthquake and again to Croatia in 1993 and 1996. Laurence Kirwan also organized an airlift of earthquake victims from Armenia in 1989. Working extensively with AmeriCares in 1989, he was the founding director of "Doctors for All People" [15] and is still in touch with patients from his charity trips.

Dr Kirwan has been named one of the Best Plastic Surgeons in the Tatler Guide to Cosmetic Surgery in 2004, 2007,2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. His patient, Ulrika Jonsson, a UK media celebrity and author, was featured on the cover of Hello Magazine after her breast reduction surgery by Prof. Kirwan, in 2009. The London Evening Standard has nominated him as one the 1000 Most Influential Londoners in 2008, 2009 and 2010. He is listed in Debrett’s ‘People of Today’ and was also named as one of the Top 20 Plastic Surgeons, Worldwide in the January 2006 issue of Russian Vogue.

Prof. Laurence Kirwan has published extensively in journals and books related to Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery and taught Instructional Courses and participated in Expert Panels at National and International Scientific Meetings such as the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
