Lee Gold is a prominent member of California science fiction fandom and an influential writer and editor in the role-playing game and filk music communities.
Gold became prominent in the mid-to-late 1970's as the editor of Alarums and Excursions, a monthly amateur press association to which numerous influential RPG writers have contributed over the years, including:
- Greg Costikyan
- John M. Ford
- E. Gary Gygax
- Edward Simbalist
- Wilf Backhaus
- Dave Hargrave
- Phil McGregor
- Dave Nalle.
In the late 1980's, Gold also began publishing Xenofilkia, a popular bimonthly collection of filk lyrics to which numerous influential songwriters have contributed, including Leslie Fish, Tom Smith and Bob Kanefsky. As of this writing, these two magazines are still being published regularly: June, 2006 saw the publication of Alarums and Excursions and Issue 107 of Xenofilkia.
She also has several professional credits in the RPG field, including Land of the Rising Sun and Lands of Adventure, published by Fantasy Games Unlimited, GURPS Japan for Steve Jackson Games and Vikings for Iron Crown Enterprises.
