Enzo Alan Zidane Fernández (IPA: [ˈɛntso ˈælən zidan fɛʁ.nɑ̃.dɛz]; born 24 March 1995) is a French-Spanish professional footballer. He was born in France, attaining Spanish citizenship in 2006, and was called up to the Spain U15 team in 2009. He currently plays as a midfielder for Juvenil A.

He is the son of Zinedine Zidane, but has chosen Enzo Fernández as his commonly formal name.[1]

Club career

Since 2004, Enzo has played for the youth academy of Real Madrid. On 6 September 2011, he was invited by José Mourinho to train with the club's first team.[2][3]

On August 5, 2013, Enzo has been promoted to Juvenil ‘A’ team.[4]

International career

Enzo Alan Zidane Fernández is eligible to play for France, Spain[5][6] and Algeria, as of his paternal grandparents, who are from there.[7][8] In 2010, Zinedine Zidane stated that he is relaxed about whether his son chooses to play for Spain or France at senior international level.[9][10][11]

On February 24th, 2014, Zidane accepted an invitation by the French U-19 to practice with the national youth team. He will still be eligible to play for Spain in case he were to change his mind.

Personal life

Named after former Uruguayan star Enzo Francescoli, he is the oldest son of Zinedine Zidane and Veronique Fernández. Enzo has three younger brothers, Luca, Theo, and Elyaz playing on Real Madrid.

Enzo is close friends with Juan José Narváez.[12]
