The 2014 NFL Draft will be the 79th annual meeting of National Football League (NFL) franchises to select newly eligible football players. The draft, officially called the "NFL Players Selection Meeting", will be held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on May 8–10, 2014.[1] The draft's traditional time frame in late April will not be available in 2014 due to a scheduling conflict at Radio City Music Hall,[2] and the NFL plans to continue holding the draft in May in future years as part of a permanent offseason calendar change.
Early entrants
A record 98 underclassmen announced their intention to forgo their remaining NCAA eligibility and declare themselves available to be selected in the draft.[3]
Selection Order
The selection order for the first round is as follows.[4] The Washington Redskins and Indianapolis Colts traded their first round selections, and will make their first selection in the second round (34th and 59th overall, respectively). The selection order for subsequent rounds will follow the order of the first round, except that teams with the same record and same playoff result will rotate among their respective groups (these groups are indicated by the bold gray lines in the table below). Also, 32 additional supplemental picks will be allocated between the ends of round 3 through 7, for a total of 256 picks. See the rules for determining draft order for more details.
WC | = lost in Wild Card round
Div | = lost in Divisional round
Conf | = lost in Conference Championship round
Lost SB | = lost in Super Bowl XLVIII
Won SB | = Super Bowl XLVIII champion |
- tie Baltimore and Dallas finished with the same record and the same strength of schedule. A coin flip, held at the NFL Scouting Combine in February, determined which team picks first.
- 12–4 teams Carolina lost in the Divisional round, while New England and San Francisco lost in the Conference Championship Games. So, Carolina will pick #28 in every round, while New England and San Francisco will cycle picks.
- SB Seattle defeated Denver in Super Bowl XLVIII. So, Denver will pick ahead of Seattle in each round, even though both teams had the same regular season record.
