Klubi i Futbollit Tirana B (short name KF Tirana B) are an Albanian football club based in Tirana. The club was founded as "KF Tirana B" on 22 January 2013 - a name derived from the main team KF Tirana. They play at the Selman Stërmasi Stadium.

The concept

The club was founded on January 22, 2013.[2] It came as result of Municipality of Tirana future project for players who are not preferred for the main team, players who are currently out on loan as well as players from KF Tirana Reserves and Academy. This initiative was considered useful for the future of these young players careers, so they could instead contribute for their mother club. Additionally, even players from Tirana U-19 and U-17 can participate. However, in accordance to official terms, main team have the right to use players from Tirana B, should there be need for them in case of injuries, etc.

Management and funding

Team will be managed by Ardian Mema, a former well known Tirana player. KF Tirana B was registered in the AFA for official sport events, however, by AFA rule, this team started their participation from the lowest category, along with the rest of opponents. Municipality of Tirana (and/or donors) have set a specific funding for Tirana B team, which of course is smaller than that of the main team.

Stadium

KF Tirana plays most of its official and friendly games mainly at the Selman Stërmasi stadium in Tirana. The Selman Stërmasi Stadium was built in 1956 and was previously named the 'Dinamo' Stadium till 1991 when it was permanently given its new name. The Football Association of Albania and the club decided to name the stadium post mortem after the eminent KF Tirana player, coach and president, Selman Stërmasi. The stadium has a capacity of 12,500 (of which 6000 seated) and has recently ended a long phase of construction, involving development of the main pitch, central seated area, facilities around the ground and general lineaments. There are still improvements expected to be made soon, as side seated areas, an electronic clock and a KF Tirana shopping centre just under central seated. The internal facilities include a press conference room, journalists' corner and modern showers. The main parking area is located at the front of the stadium, which leads to the entrance. The whole external part of the stadium is surrounded by a 9 ft rail fence.[3]

The start, promotion and first trophy

First season of Tirana B at Albanian Third Division went well, however they were not be ranked first in their group and could not get a promotion to Albanian Second Division as result.

Nonetheless, at their only second attempt, Tirana B finally made it to be promoted at a higher category for season 2014-15, one round ahead season's end and also won their first ever national trophy by beating 2-0 in the final Teuta B, the other group winners.[4] Only each group winners are promoted and have the chance to win the seasonal trophy.[5]
