Peter Andrew Comensoli (born 25 March 1962) is currently the apostolic administrator and an auxiliary bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney.[2] In addition to this, he holds the titular see of Tigisi in Numidia.[3]

Early life

Comensoli studied at St Paul's (now Holy Spirit) College, Bellambi, New South Wales and read economics the University of Wollongong,[4] before switching to theology.[5]

Priesthood

Comensoli entered the Manly Seminary in 1986 and was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Wollongong in 1992[5] by William Edward Murray.[3]

Before his appointment as a bishop, Comensoli studied in Scotland at the Universities of St Andrews and Edinburgh leaving with MLitt in Moral Philosophy and a PhD in theological ethics, respectively.[5]

Episcopate

Comensoli was appointed an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Sydney by Pope Benedict XVI on 20 April 2011.[6] He was consecrated bishop by Cardinal Pell in St Mary's Cathedral, Sydney on 8 June 2011 and became Australia's youngest bishop.[5]
