IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad is a World War II combat flight simulator developed in 2013 by the Russian software house 1C Game Studios. It inherits the name IL-2 Sturmovik from the IL-2 Sturmovik classic series (2001-2009) and is included in the general series although it runs the Rise of Flight game engine, a WWI combat flight simulator released on 2009 and developed by the 777 Studios, which associated with the 1C Company to form 1C Game Studios and develop Battle of Stalingrad.

Theater of operations

As stated in the title of the game the simulation is set during the Battle of Stalingrad (1942-1943), specifically the time period between Operation Uranus and the surrender of the 6th Army.

Development and release

IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad development was officially announced by 1C Game Studios on December 2012.[2] The release date has been stated to be in September 2014.[3] However, those who had pre-ordered the 'Premium Edition' of the game received access to an early alpha on the 19th of November 2013,[4] while those who had pre-ordered the 'Standard Edition' received access to the Alpha on the 20th of December 2013.
