AppyParking is a technology platform that allows drivers to find and pay for parking in London through its mobile application and API.[1] Previously known as Yellow Line Parking, it was created to help drivers find out information on yellow line restrictions in London. The company was founded in London in 2013 by Dan Hubert (current CEO) and Enric Requena (current CTO). [2]

Currently AppyParking covers London, but looks to expand to other big cities soon, like Brighton.[3]

AppyParking has both a consumer and enterprise product, with the consumer app being free on iOS and Android.[4]

The enterprise app, AppyParking Pro, is a paid for service (SaaS) targeting businesses with fleets.[5]

History

The idea for AppyParking came from Dan Hubert, a former advertising creative who has spent time at many of London's top agencies.[6] In 2012, after having trouble parking when going to a gig at The Royal Albert Hall, he asked a passing traffic warden about the rules for the single yellow lines. Having heard that the rules for this area were to be found a few roads away from the area he was enquiring about, Dan realised that he could help the parking industry. While still working full time, Dan Hubert started to contact every London borough and digitize their Controlled Parking Zones from basic PDF maps.[7]

In November 2013, Dan teamed up with his co-founder Enric Requena to embark on a shared vision providing parking information from a consumers point of view.[8] In 2014, Yellow Line Parking rebranded as AppyParking. In December 2014, AppyParking graduated from the 14-week Microsoft Ventures Accelerator program in London.[9] In December 2014, AppyParking launched an enterprise app aimed at commercial fleets. [10]

Services

The consumer app allows drivers to have local knowledge about any destination. When green areas appear on the map it means it’s free to park, and red zones show that restrictions still apply. It also covers resident parking bays, pay-and-displays and single yellow lines. The app also identifies electric charging bays, disabled bays, motorcycle bays and the nearest petrol stations.[11]

Investment from Rosemont Group Capital Partners

In December 2014, AppyParking announced that it had closed a seed round from Rosemont Group Capital Partners and angel investors.[12]

Ford Partnership

In January 2015, Ford announced a partnership with AppyParking at the CES 2015.[13] Dan Hubert has been CEO, and Enric Requena has been the CTO since 2013. The company is headquartered in Whitechapel, London. This will see AppyParking and Ford come together in an experiment in London to help create "Painless Parking".[14]

Media coverage and Awards

Since being founded in 2013, AppyParking has been featured on a variety of media outlets. Some of which include Stuff Magazine, The Evening Standard, The Sunday Times, Skype, The Verge, The Next Web and Zipcar.[15] As well as that, AppyParking has been featured in many newspapers, was the Grand Prize and Popular Choice winner of the Ford London Traffic Tamer Challenge[16], was the Popular Choice winner for the Shanghai Urban Commuter Challenge[17] and placed as one of the top eight apps in the Stuff Gadget Awards 2014.
