Blackburn High School is a public secondary school for girls and boys in years 7 to 12 in Blackburn, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.[1] Blackburn High School is a Victorian secondary school for young men and women. Started in 1956, the school has an amazing music legacy and is nationally reconised as one of the best music schools in Australia.
Music
Blackburn High School has long been one of the best music schools in Victoria/Australia. The school provides an excellent learning space for young musicians with a modern state of the art music facility and some of the best music teachers such as Steve Sedergreen, Dave Palmer and many more. This school has developed huge respect among other schools due to its outstanding performance in music events such as The Victorian School Music Festival, The Royal South Street Competition and the world renown Generations in Jazz Competition in Mt. Gambier which they've won more than a few times.
Houses
Blackburn High School has four Houses named Dunlop (Red), Melba (Blue), Freeman (Yellow), and Hollows (Green). The House names were inspired by the following famous Australians - Sir "Weary" Dunlop, Dame Nellie Melba, Cathy Freeman, Fred Hollows. The Houses provide the basis for Blackburn High School's educational program. Each House has approximately 160 students from Years - VCE. Within each House students are members of their own special Mentor group. The mentor group system is aimed at helping students achieve their maximum music potential.
