World Cup Qualifiers: Israel in 1970?

Shouldn't Israel be mentioned as a qualifier for 1970? They were a member of AFC at that time. Yes, they've left AFC, but it seems to be revisionism to not at least mention them here. Chanheigeorge 22:13, 21 September 2005 (UTC)

World Cup Qualifiers: Australia in 1974?

Shouldn't Australia be listed in1974? as they were a member of AFC at the time they were a member from 1972 to 1978 before rejoining OFC

I don't think Australia was a member of the AFC at the time, we were just not part of OFC, but we were not AFC members. Tancred 01:49, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

AFC Achievements

In relation to both Australia and Israel, shouldn't the "Totals" of team qulifying be limited to teams that qualified for a world cup as a member of the AFC, rather than that of current members (as it is at time of this comment). Is this page not here to display what the AFC was and is, rather than what was achieved under the label of another confederation. This would include adding Israel 1970 (with a note) and the removal of Australia 1974, 2006 (although also noted in some form). Although I am partially undecided on the matter myself, I just feel that the AFC is not being portrayed truthfully for what AFC teams (at the time) had achieved. I also believe that including Australia's achievements are taking away from what was an OFC achievement (one in which the OFC would take great pride in). What are your thoughts on the matter? I have edited this line, as most of the Asian ex-Soviet republics are in fact covered by the AFC.

A fuller discussion about the boundary between Asia and Europe can be found in the Wikipedia entry on Asia. The most commonly stated boundaries are the Urals, the Caucasus and the Bosphorus. There are a number of countries that fairly clearly straddle one of these boundaries: Turkey, Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia. Kazakhstan is a less clear case, but I think it is possible to argue it has territory west of the Urals.

Going by this, the only Asian country that is not covered by the AFC is Israel. Ordinary Person 10:58, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

Israel moving to UEFA?

Does anyone know how it came to be that Israel moved the UEFA? Never understood that. I think we should add a paragraph about it, if anyone knows a source. - CrazyRussian talk/email 20:30, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Basically, Israel moved to UEFA to get away from the Arab countries it was constantly at war with. Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Iraq. They all, at one time or another, wanted Israel's destruction - which made it hard for Israel to be able to play against them peacefully - without accompanying riots occuring. jkm 22:22, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
