Nus Ghani (born 1 September 1972) is a British Conservative party politician of Pakistani descent. She is currently the Member of Parliament for Wealden.

Early life

She was born in Birmingham on 1 September 1972. Ghani was educated in state schools before going onto Birmingham City University (formerly known as UCE/University of Central England) and gaining a Master's degree from the University of Leeds. Before involvement in politics, she was employed campaigning for charities AgeUK and Breakthrough Breast Cancer, before working for the BBC World Service.

Career

She was elected in the 2015 General Election following the retirement of Charles Hendry and her selection in an open primary where anyone listed on the constituency’s electoral register was eligible to attend and vote for their preferred candidate. The primary attracted nearly 400 residents from across the constituency.[1][2][3][4]

Ghani first stood for Parliament at the 2010 General Election, when she was the candidate for Birmingham Ladywood.
