Rahul Easwar (Malayalam: രാഹുൽ ഈശ്വർ) is an Indian author and activist. His higher studies were in philosophy and psychology, then pursued Global Leadership at the London School of Economics. Easwar has written three books on Indian philosophy and is a panelist on national news media. He is also the Kerala State Youth Commission co-ordinator responsible for implementing cyber education, pre-marital orientation and anti narcotic policies.[1][2]

Personal life

Easwar is the son of Easwaran Nampoothiri and Mallika, and the grandson of Kandararu Maheshwararu, senior supreme priest of Sabarimala. He is married to media personality Deepa Vijayan.

Activism

Easwar is known as a right of centre voice and Hinduthva in national and Kerala media. He initiated a campaign against the artist M. F. Husain resulting in the cancellation of his "Raja Ravi Varma Puraskar" award. He has conducted campaigns for tribal rights and was arrested along with a thousand members of the Malayaraya Tribal Community.[3] He has conducted lecture tours on Indian philosophy across twelve nations, including the United States, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Mauritius, Malaysia, Singapore and Sri Lanka.

Contributions to society

Easwar was the voice who defended Sabarimala, Mata Amritanandamayi[4] and the Travancore Royal Family in the controversies they faced. Easwar articulated the difference between Makara Jyothi and Makara Vilakku, bringing closure to a long standing controversy. He was engaged in a fight with Devasom Board for rights of Tribals in Sabarimala.[5]

Easwar supports the cultivation of Hindu unity in Kerala while maintaining the secular harmony of the state. Talking to media, he made it clear that majority consolidation shouldn't be anti-minority and it should take every one into confidence. He claims his line is 'Secular Hindu Unity'.[6]

Controversies

Rahul Easwar was attacked by a pro-beef festival group, which consists of students from the Milad E Sherif Memorial College for not revoking his anti-beef festival and cow slaughter stance. The group who supported beef consumption attacked his car and vandalized it. The Principal of the College Prof. Shaik Ahammed, personally called Mr. Easwar and apologized to him. Twenty-five students were taken into police custody following the attack.[7][8]

He was the winner of the Malayalam version of Big Boss, Malayalee House and was criticised for getting close to another contestant in the show, Rosin Jolly.[9]
