Kalimba Kadjaly Marichal Ibar, known professionally as Kalimba, is a Mexican singer, songwriter, director, producer and actor.

Early life and Career begginings

Kalimba Kadjaly Marichal Ibar was born in Mexico City to parents who are Afro-Latino. He and his sister M'balia were both given traditional African names. His parents, especially his father, were involved in music and theatre.

Kalimba began his career at the age of three. He and his sister M'balia Marichal began performing in theater and on television. Kalimba appeared on shows such as Chiquilladas and Chocolate Chip (in which he shared credit with his father). At the same time he participated in the soap opera Carrusel Americas biography.

In 1993 Kalimba joined La Onda Vaselina as part of the Mexican pop group OV7, participating in the album La Banda Rock. After leaving the group in 1996 he returned to dubbing with work in films such as The Lion King where he sang as the voice of Simba for the song I Just Can't Wait to Be King (Yo Quisiera Ya Ser El Rey),<ref name="Kalimba">{{cite news | | date=January 22, 2011 | accessdate=January 22, 2011 and James and the Giant Peach. He voiced Takashi in the Latin American version of Akira, as well as the eponymous character in Chicken Little. Other works include the voice of Arnold in Hey Arnold! and the telenovela "Carrusel de las Americas".

Kalimba is also known for his acting, appearing in , Broken Sky (2006), Divina confusion (2008) and Héroes verdaderos (2010).

Career as soloist Artist

• AEROSOUL (2004-2006)

After the disintegration of OV7, Kalimba became known as a soloist with his album Aerosoul, published on May 18, 2004. This album had a mix of funk, soul, rock and R & B, which was made with Aureo Baqueiro, Mario Domm, Edgar Winter Group and Sebastian Arocha. Kalimba was co-producer, writer and composer in this album. He had as guest artists Natalia Lafourcade, Ha*Ash and Maria Barracuda.

"No me quiero enamorar" was launched as a first hit and sounded quite in Mexico, United States and Latin America. The video was made in early April.

In June filmed the video for her second single, "Latin Party (Your heart knows)" in Argentine studies Film Planet under Picky Tallarico direction.

In July after making promotion in Central America, Puerto Rico, United States (Chicago, Philadelphia, New York, Washington, Houston, Dallas, Miami) and Argentina, he began his official tour. This album sold more than 80,000 copies in the US only (Gold records) and more than 100,000 copies in Mexico and Latin America (Platinum record)

• NEGROKLARO (2006)

In 2006 Kalimba recorded his second album in Italy. He was the producer along with M'Balia Marichal, Oscar Schwebel (fellow ex OV7) and Jay de la Cueva.

On this album a duet with Jesus Navarro Rosas of the group Reik was included "No puedo dejarte de amar" and the hit "Duele", video in which appeared the actress Camila Sodi, for which he also received an awards for getting more than 25,000 downloads online and a winner of Platinum records for more than 220,000 records sold.

• MI OTRO YO (2008)

In September 2008 he launged this album with the single "Jamas ," which also premiered the music video . The album was recorded by Fabrizio Simoncioni in Texas and California. This album contains twelve songs composed by himself, Ettore Grenci and Oscar Schwebel with 80´s rock and soul influences.

• AMAR Y QUERER. HOMENAJE A LAS GRANDES CANCIONES (2010)

This album is a tribute of the greatest singers of all times. He was awarded with Double platinum record plus a Gold record for more than 160,000 records sold in Mexico only.

• HOMENAJE A LAS GRANDES CANCIONES VOL.II (2011)

After the smashing success of the last record, the label decided to record a second album of the greatest singers of all times and the result was another Platinum record.

CENA PARA DESAYUNAR (2014)

In December of 2014 the album was released and the first single "Este Frio" was number one in the national radio charts for 7 weeks in a row, and the second single "Estrellas Rotas" was number one as well for 6 weeks in a row. He was the Producer of this album along with Stefano Vieni and collaborate as a writer and director of the videos of this album.

REALITY SHOWS

Kalimba was invited in 2014 to be a couch in "La Voz Peru" (International format of the TV show "The Voice") and also as a couch on "La voz Kids Peru" (International format of the TV show "The Voice Kids"). After the success on "La Voz Peru" he was again invited to be part of the second season of the same show.

In 2015 up to date, he is one of the three judges of "Mexico tiene talento" (International format of "America´s got talent).
