Fargam was the second astronaut monkey launched into space by Iran. He was a male and from the rhesus macaque species. The 2013 trip was successful, and he returned to Earth alive and safe.[1]

Technology

The launch of the rocket called Pajohesh marked Iran's first use of liquid fuel in such an operation. The rocket reached the altitude of 72 miles before Fargam was returned to Earth safely.[2]

Launch report

  • The launch was by shahab1 missile.
  • The animal heart rate was between 90 and 110 per minute.
  • The animal body temperature was about 37°C.
  • After mission in Tehran Small Animal Hospital Veterinary Medicine Veterinary experts were examined and the results showed that he was healthy and in good physical condition.
  • Experts at the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) have confirmed Iran’s success in sending a locally-built bio-capsule with a live monkey on board into space, Head of Iran’s Space Agency (ISA) Hamid Fazeli said on February 13.[3]

History

Also in 2010, Iran successfully sent a rat, turtle and worms into space. The launch of Pajohesh is another long step getting the Islamic Republic of Iran closer to sending a man into space. At the time, the attempts had been touted as the first step towards sending a man into space, which Tehran says is scheduled for 2020.
