Dutch Fork High School is a school in the Lexington & Richland County School District Five system, located in Irmo, South Carolina, United States. In 2009 it had approximately 1,956 students.[1]Built to contain no more than about 1,600 students, it has been expanded to accommodate a little over 1,900, and has faced severe overcrowding. Portable classrooms have been installed for the 2005-2006 school year. During the 12-13 school year, the population has expanded to over 2,000 students.

Dutch Fork has been named in Newsweek's List of the 100 Best Schools in the United States for five years in a row. In 2009, Dutch Fork reached its highest ranking at #91.[2]

Dutch Fork High school is ranked 199 out of 244 in South Carolina, 2011.

Classes and curriculum

Dutch Fork High School offers grade level, advanced, honors, and AP level courses. The STEM accelerated learning program offers science and math courses for students to take an intensive AP/Honors curriculum before moving on to similar studies in college.

Twenty-four Advanced Placement courses are offered in liberal arts and science/math fields.

Athletics

DFHS offers sports and athletic programs to students, as well as intramurals and in-school tournaments. The school mascot is "Foxy" the Silver Fox and teams are known as the Dutch Fork Silver Foxes, with the exception of the district-wide hockey team: The District Five Fusion. In 2012, Dutch Fork High School started a boys and girls lacrosse team. Cheerleading won the school's first and then consecutive state titles in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2003, and most recently in 2014. The DFHS varsity girls basketball team has won the Upper and Lower State Championship in consecutive years 2012,2013,2014.The Dutch Fork Varsity Football Team won the 2013 South Carolina Class 4A Division 1 State Championship. The Dutch Fork Varsity Wrestling team won the 2003 South Carolina 4A State Championship and was runner-up in 1996 (3A), 1997, 1999, 2001, and 2002.

Dutch Fork has chapters of state and national organizations such as Key Club, Beta Club, and Junior Civitans.
