Pioneer Township is one of seventeen townships in Cedar County, Iowa, USA. At the 2000 census, its population was 1,810.
History and Literature
Pioneer Township was established in 1848.[3] The area has produce several important figures in literature and broadcasting, including farmer-writer Walter Thomas Jack and his great-grandson, the writer Zachary Michael Jack, whose writings are included in the Iowa Authors Collection[4]. Everette Douglas "Doug" Brown, who grew up in the township, was a well-known Iowa broadcaster who worked for WOI radio.[5]
Geography
Pioneer Township covers an area of 36.53 square miles (94.6 km2) and contains one incorporated settlement, Mechanicsville. According to the USGS, it contains four cemeteries: Andre, Pioneer, Rose Hill and Union.
