Located a few miles west of Savannah, the Jimmy DeLoach Parkway is a road that links US 80/SR 26 in Bloomingdale and SR 21 on the Savannah–Port Wentworth city line. It also has an interchange with Interstate 95 (I-95). It was named after a politician from the Savannah area.[1][2]

James "Jimmy" DeLoach was a Democrat. He served three terms as Mayor of Garden City from 1973 to 1979. In 1980, he was elected to a four-year term as Chatham County Commissioner for District 7.[3] He was re-elected in 1984[4] and 1988.[5] He did not run for re-election in 1992. His son Eddie, also a Democrat, succeeded him.[6]

Route description

The Parkway starts at an at-grade intersection with US 80. The route then heads northeast, coming to more at-grade intersections with Towler Road and Seregenti Boulevard. It then comes to an interchange with Exit 106 on Interstate 95 (I-95). The route then heads east, bridging over SR 21. Turning south, It then interchanges with a connector Road to SR 21. It then interchanges with Grange Road. The Parkway then terminates at SR 307 temporarily. An extension to the Port of Savannah is currently under study.

History

When the Parkway was originally built, it originally ran from US 80 to SR 21. An extension to SR 307 opened in 2016.

Future

The parkway has an extension past SR 307 to the Port of Savannah in the study phase.
