Citizens' Coalition (Swedish: Medborgerlig Samling, MED) is a green liberal-conservative political party in Sweden.

Party policy includes a liberal financial policy, a strengthened emphasis on the individual's own responsibilities, as well as it's rights, and has a conservative view on society and culture. The party promotes responsible environmental politics, stronger national defense, including seeking NATO membership, and added resources to the police and justice system. The party also wants to carefully manage Sweden's Nordic model welfare system by cutting unnecessary spending, reserving it's benefits for Swedish citizens and those with a residence permit, as well as greatly reducing asylum and refugee immigration, removing marginal taxes and raising the standard deduction to a level where even lower income households could live of a paycheck.[1][2]

History

The party was founded in 2014,[4] initially as "Borgerlig Framtid" (“Bourgeois Future”) by the journalist Anders Königsson,.[5] The party name was later changed to "Medborgerlig Samling" ("Citizens' Coalition"), abbreviated as MED, at an extra general meeting during the fall of 2016. The name change was promted by a falling out between Königsson, then party leader, and the party's board, leading to Königsson leaving the party to set up a new party, re-using the party name “Borgerlig Framtid”.[6][7][8] At the same general meeting Ilan Sadé was elected new chairman and party leader.

Following a sucessfull petition to the Swedish Election Authority, to register the party under the name "Medborgerlig Samling", the party name became the official party designation as of 17 May 2017.[9] allowing the party to participate in the 2018 general elections.
