Ralph & Russo is a British luxury goods company and haute couture fashion house. It became the first British brand to be elected in almost 100 years by the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture to show its collection on the official schedule at Paris Haute Couture Week.[1] The Chambre Syndicale’s former president, Didier Grumbach was quoted as saying "We expect savoir faire, which is being lost, and they Ralph & Russo have it".[2]
The house was founded in 2007 by duo Tamara Ralph (Creative Director) and Michael Russo (CEO).[3]
In 2013, Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo were jointly listed at #39 on Fortune magazine's 40 under 40.[4] and in 2016 were awarded the "Outstanding Achievement Award" at the Walpole British Luxury Awards[5][6]
The privately held company is controlled and run by Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo. It does not have a publicly verifiable valuation.[7]
Creative Director, Tamara Ralph
Ralph became the first female Creative Director from the UK in nearly 100 years deemed eligible to show during Paris Haute Couture week. She is also one of only three female Creative Directors worldwide eligible to present their collections during this period. She continues to be recognised by Vogue [8] and Harper’s Bazaar [9] for her achievements, together with her inclusion into the Fortunes 40 under 40 list [10] and the BOF 500. [11]
Maisons and Retail Boutiques
Ralph & Russo opened its flagship maison in London's Mayfair shortly followed by another in Paris on Rue Francois 1er.[12] In 2015, the brand opened its first boutique in Harrods.[13][14] and has outlined plans to open further stores in America, Europe and Asia. [15]
Craft
With a global footprint of private clients, Ralph & Russo has an atelier bigger than Chanel’s.[16] Constructed entirely by hand over thousands of hours using techniques that are centuries old,[17] Ralph & Russo closed their SS16 couture show with one of the biggest wedding gowns in couture history: a dress with a train so long it required six atelier staff to turn it at the end of the runway. The gown had a total of 826 metres of tulle and 46 metres of organza, with millions of micro-beads, crystals, pearls, delicate shaped organza flowers and three-dimensional petals and leaves hand-embroidered onto the gown. The embroidery alone for the bridal gown took over 50 couturiers and 6,000 combined hours to create.[18]
