This is a list of animal characters who appear in the fictional Dragon Ball manga and anime (character appears in the original Dragon Ball seriescharacter appears in the Dragon Ball Z seriescharacter appears in the Dragon Ball GT series), including the Dragon Ball Z movies (character appears in Dragon Ball Movie(s) almost exclusively). These type of characters are featured prominently in Dragon Ball, but fade out to an almost completely human population around halfway into Dragon Ball Z. Following some characters bio are external links that focus on that character.

Template:Spoilers

Master Roshi's friend and long-time companion, the good-natured lovable turtle lives in the Kame House with the elderly hermit. During DBZ in the anime, he celebrates his 1,000th birthday in episode 117. He plays a relatively small part in the manga, but he has quite a few large roles in the anime. When he first appeared, he was in the wilderness, alone and lost. He was picking mushrooms when he got separated from his friends and had since been wandering around on land for over a year. Goku kindly takes on the task of returning him to the ocean, which he is very grateful for. It is Umigame who introduces Master Roshi to Bulma and Goku. Umigame does not care much for Master Roshi's perverted interests, enjoying honest interests himself. He was the first animal character Goku ever meets and befriends, giving a small sense of irony that in the final Dragon Ball GT episode, he's one of the few friends Goku bids farewell after departing with Shenlong. In the anime, his power level is 0.001, as evident when Bulma tests Raditz's scouter in the Saiyan Saga.

Emperor Pilaf's ninja crony who apparently is a human dog. He and Mai usually work together to carry out the work of their vertically-challenged and short tempered Emperor. He's one of the first villains in the Dragon Ball series, but perhaps villain is too strong a word. He's almost comic relief. Originally known as Soba in the manga, but was renamed due to match the anime name given after Akira Toriyama forgot he had named him previously.

Captain Yellow Template:Appears in:DB

One of the high-ranking officers of the Red Ribbon Army. He's one of the many animal person characters and he happens to be a tiger. We see him briefly in the manga and anime, but he goes around trying to find the Dragon Ball's for General Copper. He's killed by Goku who punches him out of his own plane.

An alligator who wears sunglasses and likes to sunbathe in a hammock on Roshi's island. In Dragon Ball, he points out Muten Rôshi to Pilaf, Shu, and Mai when they show up looking for him. He appears only in the anime.

The brontosaurus that Gohan befriends while he is training in the wilderness. Gohan helps the dinosaur by removing a giant thorn from his side and treating his wounds, but later the Dinosaur is attacked and killed by the local T-Rex. (Anime Only)

File:Gregory.gif
Gregory

Kaio-sama's motor-mouth pupil, a little flying cricket named Gregory. He only appears in the anime and in a couple movies. He's very respectful of his master and always speaks highly of him, but he'll talk trash to anyone he doesn't believe is better than him. He is killed when Cell blows up on Kaio-sama's planet.

(FUNimation dubb: Icarus)

This little dragon friend of Gohan's appeared in DBZ Movies 3 - 5, various episodes of the Garlic Junior Saga, and two episodes of the Trunks Saga. He's a young Dragon who befriends Son Gohan after he rescues him from a burning forest (how they meet in the anime canon is unknown, as DBZ movie 3 can't possibly fit, hence it was presumably during the 10 months on Earth before Garlic Junior's return). While dub-only, Haiyaa Dragon does get one small mention by Goten in a later Great Saiyaman Saga episode, presuming that he may still be around as a friend even by this later point. His function in Dragon Ball seems to leave Chi-Chi a more insane person than she may already be, therefore sometimes Gohan quits studying to have fun with him. He was renamed Icarus in FUNimation's dub, excluding the one decision to call him "Higher Dragon" in the Uncut Pioneer VHS/DVD release. He appears only in the anime and a few of the movies. A similar purple dragon appears in the Buu Saga in Otherworld after Planet Earth was destroyed. It is unknown whether it is the same Hire Duragon or not.

A rare near-extinct bird that dwells in volcanoes (this bird happens to eat flames), whose feathers must be used to create the Bansho Fan. Goku and Chi-Chi needed one to put out the fires on Mount Frypan. He is an anime-only character.

A very large (and odd-looking) wild boar which Tenshinhan and Chaozu use as part of their con act. They tell the creature to destroy a town, so it does. Tenshinhan and Chaozu then step forward and offer to kill the beast for money. Obviously they pretend to kill it, and they get the townspeople's money. They go from town to town doing the same thing, until Goku messes up their evil plans. This creature only appears in the anime. Inoshikachyou is a pun on the "Ino-Shika-Cho" winning combination in Hanafuda. Inoshikachyou also gets its appearance from that name; Inoshikachyou is a boar with deer antlers and butterfly wings. This corresponds to "ino" meaning boar, "shika" for deer and "chyou" for butterfly.

One of the orphans Gohan meets after Romu brings him to their home. Jinku had the physical features of a fox, and he, just like the others, is taken back to the orphanage. He is an anime-only character.

Another of the orphans met by Gohan, and another animal-looking one at that. He rides a motorbike that he and Gohan use to escape after stealing apples from a market. His character only appears in the anime.

Konkichi

Goku meets this fox-like kid on his trip around the world. Konkichi is a thief, but only steals to survive. He treats Goku like a King after Goku saved his life and calls him brother. He only appears in the anime.

Pteranodon Family Template:Appears in:DBZ

A family of Pterodactyls' that Gohan and Goten befriend. Gohan and Goten call their baby "Chibi" which means little or small. Gohan refers to the father as Toto, but the mother's name is never mentioned. Chibi is captured by the circus and the Great Saiyaman/Gohan tries to rescue him, but before he can, Chibi's momma and papa go on an angry rampage searching for their child. They only appear in the anime.

Bee is the little dog who Buu finds and befriends along with Mr. Satan. Buu bonds with the puppy and is playing catch with him when the dog is shot by two gangsters. Buu heals the puppy, but he's enraged by the event and even more so after they shoot at Mr. Satan, which causes him to flip and create Evil Buu. During the end of the Buu Saga, Mr. Satan and Bee travel around the area until they encounter Gohan, Piccolo, Goten, Trunks and Super Buu. Fans get to see a lighter, more caring side of Mr. Satan during this time, as he makes sure that Bee is safe while the Super Saiyan Vegetto clashes with Buu. Bee lives with Mr. Satan and Buu after the Buu Saga and is once being looked after by Bulma and Trunks in Wrath of the Dragon (presumably being lent to Trunks by Buu for a few days). He appears again, albeit very naturally aged, in the last 3 episodes of Dragon Ball Z. It is likely that he died of old age between the series gap of Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT, as he is nowhere to be seen in GT.

File:Bear Thief (Dragon Ball) photo.jpg
Bear Thief

A huge sword-wielding bear that has a taste for sea turtle. Goku's first true battle is with this bear, who refuses to back down after Goku threatens to fight him if he won't let them pass. He was defeated easily.

This bear wears a white shirt. He fought in the preliminaries of the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai but lost to Jackie Chun. Appeared in: "Then There Were Eight".

The boss of a small group of gangsters that terrorize a small town. The ironic thing, is that he's a giant rabbit and his gang members wear fake rabbit ears. The reason The Carrot Master is feared so much is because he has the ability to turn people into carrots, just by touching them. He's sent to the moon by Goku where he's forced to make rabbit shaped treats for kids, (it's a play on an old Japanese folk-tale which says that rabbits live on the moon and make treats for children).

Although it's never really brought up, the character was probably killed when Jackie Chun (Muten Roshi) blows up the moon to reverse Goku's transformation in the 21st World Tournament.

Bubbles

Kaio-sama's pet monkey who serves as a training exercise. The exercise is to catch Bubbles. It seems easy, but the gravity on Kaio-sama's planet is 10x Earth's gravity and Bubbles is perfectly used to it. It takes Goku several days to catch Bubbles, but only a few seconds for Piccolo to catch him. He is killed when Cell self-destructs on Kaio-sama's planet.

Baby Gamera (turtle taxi) is a mode of transportation utilized by Kame Sen'nin once very early on in the series to accompany the young Goku and Chi-Chi to Mount Fry Pan. He achieves flight by spinning very rapidly. The downside to using this mode of transportation, for Kame Sen'nin is that he immediately vomits upon disengaging. He is a miniature version of the classic Japanese monster Gamera.

This small canine-like animal is the King of the World. He shows up mainly in DB when King Piccolo assaults his castle. He is one of the few people that knows Goku is a hero. He shows up again in DBZ when Nappa and Vegeta attack, during the Cell Games, giving ki to Goku's final Genki Dama against Buu, and in DBGT he helps with the evacuation of the citizens of Earth to the Planet Plant.

Dr. Briefs' Black cat

This is the little pet cat that is always sitting on Dr. Brief's shoulder. He has had many many years of experience, as said by Briefs himself. The North American dub gives him the name "Scratch," whereas the Japanese anime names him "Tama."

Iruka (Dolphin) Template:Appears in:DB

A friendly dolphin that gave Son Goku and ChiChi directions to Muten-Rôshi's house. Not named in original manga.

Neko Majin Z

Z is the title character of Neko Majin Z. He is a parody of Son Goku, wearing an orange-and-blue dōgi and carrying what is apparently the Nyoibō on his back. He is also able to perform the "Nekohameha," a takeoff on the "Kamehameha." It is revealed in the final two chapters of Neko Majin Z that it was, in fact, Goku who trained the cat in the first place.

A huge Pteranodon monster who competes against Son Goku in the 21st Tenka'ichi Budokai and forfeits the match. He's very powerful for his strength, but Goku counters him eventually. In the anime, his character is built up a lot more with a bar-fight scene. (Some drunks make fun of him for ordering milk so he beats all of them). He likes introducing himself as "Kujirada."

This is the chairman of 21st Tenka-ichi Budōkai. He is said to have an important announcement and the announcer hands him the microphone. He simply says "Wan." (Japanese for "woof" or "bark")

A wolf who turns into a man when he looks into a full moon. During his time as a wolf, Jackie Chun destroyed the moon, and Man-Wolf was forced to live as a hideous wolf forever. In the next tournament, he tried to get his revenge by facing Chun. He is disqualified for using a knife, but Chun lets him continue, and wins anyway. Afterwards, Chun cures his problem by substituting Kuririn's head for a full moon.

A passer by, he is hit in the head by an apple Goku, after eating it, tosses out of a tree. He chases Goku but ends up falling off of a cliff (Wile E. Coyote style) as Goku had grabbed a tree branch to avoid the fall. He becomes a recurring character; ironically he also makes an appearance in the first episode of Dragon Ball Z, and continues to appear in filler scenes with Gohan. (Anime Only)

One of the shortest lived characters to appear in Dragon Ball, we see the "Big Fish" alive for about 15 seconds in the first episode of Dragon Ball when Goku catches it using his tail for dinner. The same kind of fish continues to appear throughout the series and movies. In Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3, you can see him in the background of the Grandpa Gohan's house stage.
