Lucas Boyé (born 28 February 1996) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a winger for Greek club AEK Athens, on loan from Italian club Torino.[1]

He is nicknamed El Tanque (The Tank) and El Toro (The Bull).

Club career

Early career

Boyé was called up by Ramon Diaz for River Plate's pre-season in Salta in January 2014.[2] His unofficial debut took place on 29 January 2014 in a friendly against San Lorenzo de Almagro at the Estadio Padre Ernesto Martearena in Salta, when he replaced Jonathan Fabbro 23 minutes into the second half. River Plate lost the match to San Lorenzo 1–3.

Soon after he returned to play for the first team in another friendly, this time against the provincial team of San Luis, entering at the beginning of the second half to replace Daniel Villalba in a match which River Plate won 3–1. He made his official debut against Ferro in the final tournament of the 2013–14 Copa Argentina, in a match which River Plate won 6–5 in a penalty shootout.[3]

His debut in the Argentine Primera División came in a 1–1 tie against Gimnasia y Esgrima on the first day of the 2014 Torneo de Transición.[4] Four days later, on 31 August, Boyé scored his first goal in the Primera División off an assist from Tomas Martinez, the third in a match which River won 3–1 against San Lorenzo.[5]

Torino

On 1 February 2016, he signed a contract with Italian club Torino for four seasons, starting in July 2016.[6]

Celta (loan)

On 31 January 2018, he moved on loan to Spanish club Celta.

AEK Athens (loan)

When the popular Sergio Araujo returned to Las Palmas, a large hole was left in AEK’s attacking armory, however another Argentinian striker took his place in AEK's front line. Lucas Boyé, a 22-year old forward on the books of Torino, joined AEK on loan for the 2018–19 season. Last year, Boyé did begin the campaign with parent club Torino in Italy, but he was shifted out to Celta Vigo in the winter and competed in 13 La Liga matches without scoring any goal.[7] On 28 October 2018, Boyé broke clear on a counter attack after intercepting possession. The 22-year-old Argentine shows great pace and composure to beat Julián Cuesta, scoring his first goal with the club in a hammering 4–0 home win game against Aris Thessaloniki.[8]

Style of play

Boyé is described as a well structured, yet agile centre forward, with excellent technique and dribbling ability.[9] He is noted for his work rate and willingness to sacrifice himself for the team.[9] He is compared to former Roma forward Abel Balbo.[9]
