In August 2006, on E!'s website, it listed the girlfriends as Holly, Kendra, and ''Heidi''. It is unknown if this was an error, or if Hef has "replaced" Bridget. As of September 3, 2006 the error has been fixed to read: Get clips and the 411 on Holly, Kendra, and Bridget's every move. The Girls Next Door is a reality television series that premiered in August 2005 on E! (Entertainment Television). In Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, the title is The Girls of the Playboy Mansion.

The series is the brainchild of executive producer Kevin Burns and Hugh Hefner, founder and editor-in-chief of Playboy magazine. The series focuses on the lives of Hefner's three girlfriends who live with him at the Playboy Mansion: Holly Madison, Bridget Marquardt, and Kendra Wilkinson. Hefner and various other Playmates can be seen making cameo appearances.

The series not only showcased events at the Playboy Mansion (e.g. Fight Night, 4th of July celebration) but also shed light on other Playboy related events such as the Playboy Jazz Festival at Hollywood Bowl, Playboy playmate test shoots at Playboy Studio West, Operation Playmate, Party night, birthday parties, etc.

To celebrate the success of the series, Playboy published a special nude pictorial of Holly, Bridget, and Kendra in the November 2005 issue. The original eight-episode run of the series was expanded to fifteen episodes with the first season finale airing in early December 2005. The series' second season began on July 30, 2006.

The tagline of the show is, "You call it fantasy, they call it home."
