RelaxMyDog is a media production company which creates relaxing music and television content for dogs. It was founded in 2011 by entrepreneur Amman Ahmed and producer Ricardo Henriquez. The music, composed by Henriquez, is designed to relax dogs with anxiety problems and help them sleep. The television content is also color-graded for dogs' eyes.

Background

In 2011, Ahmed founded Roundwaves, a company which created music to relax humans, using the last £1000 of his student loan. He met El Salvador-based music producer Henriquez online, and together they released a series of tracks. After they noticed that pets were also "responding" to the music along with their owners, Henriquez decided to compose music targeted at relaxing his dog Zuki, which was suffering from anxiety due to the sounds of gun violence in the neighbourhood. Ahmed states that "Seeing Zuki relaxed and happy was my eureka moment."[1]

Research and effects

According to Ahmed, the idea of the company was "to make something to calm pets that was 100% natural, through music." He states that the music comprises "a range of frequencies that the dogs can hear, combined with music that is designed to be relaxing to humans, since if the human is relaxed, that energy can be projected on to the dog also."[2]

The Guardian reported in 2018 that RelaxMyDog has an audience of 10 million users per month and produced a success rate of 87 percent based on user feedback.[3] RelaxMyDog is offered on streaming services such as YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music and Tidal, as well as the official website and the mobile application which is also supported on Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Roku.[4][5]

In 2012, RelaxMyCat was founded as a sister company. According to Ahmed, over 20 million pets have used the services of MusicForPets with the United States being about 60 percent of their market share. MusicForPets has also earned the nickname "Petflix."[6]
