Really? Is that true? Most readers looking up Thermoplastic polyurethane are going to be technically literate - or would not be here in the first place. There seems to be this idea that if something is to technical for the mainstream editors that it is a problem with the presentation - not that the subject is inherently complex. Not everything can be expressed at a high-school level.

Polyurethanes are a group of plastics that are either thermosetting or thermoplastic. Polyurethanes can be created into both flexible and inflexible foams. The flexible foam is often used in furniture and automobile cushions, in mattresses, and for carpet backings. The rigid foam is used as thermal insulation in refrigerators, trucks, and buildings. When used in furniture, the rigid foam is molded into mirror frames, shells of chairs, and other parts previously made from wood. Some polyurethanes are highly elastic materials that are resistant to chemical attack and resistant to abrasion. They are often used in solid rubber tires and the heels of shoes. Lycra is a fiber used in stretch clothing; Lycra is an example of a polyurethane. Among other uses, polyurethanes are also used as decorative and protective coatings because of their high gloss, hardness, resistance, and toughness.[1]
