The European Labour Authority is a planned agency of the European Union tasked with coordinating and supporting the enforcement of EU labour law.[1] The agency is expected to be up and running in 2019 and to reach full operational capacity by 2024.[1] Bratislava, Slovakia is the agency's host city.[2]
History
The agency was first suggested by Jean-Claude Junker, President of the European Commission, during his 2017 State of the European Union address.[1] On February 13, 2018, the European Commission presented its first draft of the regulation establishing the authority.[3] On February 14, 2019, the Parliament and Council reached a provisional agreement on the proposal, which was passed by both in the following months.[4] On June 13, 2019, the EU announced that Bratislava, Slovakia would serve as the agency's host city.[2]
