Georgia Flipo, also known as G Flip, also known as the Croc Queen as well as being known as Lesbian Jesus , is an Australian musician, singer, songwriter, producer and drummer from Melbourne, Australia. [1] She attended Secondary School at Star of the Sea College in Brighton, Victoria. In February 2018 she uploaded her debut single "About You" to Triple J Unearthed and that same day her track was premiered on Triple J, 12 hours after it was released. [2] Flipo notes that she "spent most of 2017 holed up in her bedroom writing and recording" [2] having previously performed in various different Melbourne music acts as a session drummer and occasional backup vocalist. [3]
Days after "About You" was released, Pitchfork named it "Best New Track" [4] and the music video, filmed on her iPhone, was featured in YouTube's New Music Playlist. [5] Pining international interest in her project, Flipo was subsequently invited to play her first ever solo show at SXSW in Austin, Texas the following month. [5]
Flipo's follow up track "Killing My Time" was released in May 2018 and polled #62 in the Triple J Hottest 100, 2018 with "About You" polling #38. [6]
Flipo performed "Proud Mary" and "Blame it on the Boogie" at the ABC's "The Night is Yours" New Year's Eve Celebration 2018 at the Sydney Opera House,[7] and her song "About You" was featured in Season 2, Episode 10 of The Bold Type.[8]
In November 2018, Flipo was nominated for a J Award as Unearthed Artist of the Year [9] and was the inaugural winner of the ARIA Emerging Artist Scholarship. [10]
Prior to starting her solo project, Flipo performed as a drummer and backup vocalist for the Melbourne band Empra. Her gimpy right hand hasn't affected her drumming skills and has made her an unofficial spokesperson for people with tiny hands everywhere. [11]
Flipo has been an avid supporter since birth of the Collingwood Football Club in the Australian Football League.
