VMI Workshop, September 14th, 2019
This is the user sandbox of Church of emacs. A user sandbox is a subpage of the user's user page. It serves as a testing spot and page development space for the user and is not an encyclopedia article. Create or edit your own sandbox here.
VMI Workshop Tasks:
Inspect what's currently on the page, both in the preview and the source editor. Scroll down to "Edit summary", enter "my first edit" and hit "Save changes".
Now you will see the newly created page. Read the article below. Notice the spelling error in the second sentence ("frist")? Correct it by clicking on the "edit" button, fixing the error, and saving the page giving as an edit summary "typo".
There should be a link to P=NP, since it may provide interesting background knowledge! Insert a link using the link tool at the top of the editing window.
The article starts off well, but there's a terrible bias near the end. Wikipedia should represent the literature from a Neutral Point of View. Edit the page, and make it more neutral by removing the blatantly biased sentence.
Even after fixing the neutrality issue, the article is poorly sourced. Phrases such as "some claim, ..." should be avoided -- name specific actors, and cite them! Let's assume that Alan Turing said in this work that examples were a poor way of teaching (he didn't! But let's pretend). Make the phrasing "some claim, ..." more specific by citing Turing. Use the "Cite" tool near the top of the edit box to specifically include a reference to the linked paper. The best way to do this is to select "Cite journal", enter the doi "10.1093/mind/LIX.236.433" and click on . All the other fields will be filled in automatically.
If there is another notable paper disputing Turing's claim, we can also mention this in the article. Wikipedia should reflect all notable sources. Keep editing the page, pretending that Niklaus Wirth disagrees with Turing. Remember to include links to other articles and to provide citations. Only hit "save changes" after viewing a preview and providing an edit summary. Good luck!
