route 5 commenced operation on 1941 between Romford and Canning Town operating as WPC Buses

On 15 April 2005, the route passed to East London with ALX400 Tridents

On 10 December 2011, the route passed to [[Stagecoach London]] with ALX400 Tridents and Alexander Dennis Envro 400 Darts

On 9 April 2017, the route passed to [[Blue Triangle]] operating with Wright Eclipse Gemini 2's and Enviro 400 MMC's
