Rudeness
I see by looking at WP:CONDUCTDISPUTE that I am not supposed to react on a talk page to rudeness by another editor. I'm sorry, I've never been insulted so openly in years of editing on Wikipedia. Maybe you didn't intend to include me in your censureship of the person whose conduct you were rebuking and if so, I'll accept an apology. You did not assume good faith. Chris55 ([]) 22:19, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

Your rudeness
Your rudeness is not appreciated in an encyclopedia or, I suspect, anywhere else. <!-- Template:Unsigned IP --><small class="autosigned">—&nbsp;Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.14.232.67 ([]) 21:32, 18 April 2017 (UTC)</small> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->
:That did not give me enough information to know what you are talking about and I don't know of any occasion when I've interacted with you. What was it I said that you considered rude and in what way did you find it rude thanks. Dmcq ([]) 00:00, 19 April 2017 (UTC)
[[user:Eimhin de Róiste ([]) 20:09, 1 September 2018 (UTC)]] Hello Dmcq,

I'm hoping to apologise.
I realise it was a shocking and potentially insulting or unintentionally suspicious behaviour on my part to neglect to create a profile. I thank you for your help to date.
I suspect this may also be the wrong area to apologise.
(I picked here to highlight my rudeness)
I believe I should apologise to others DrKay, Canterburytalk and many others for my likely terrible breach of Wikipedia etiquette. Could you point to me how/where to apologise to the others I have offended. I have no problem with the first line of the UK page but totally understand that I must have appeared to be some kind of crank or crackpot. I actually decided to study the naming conventions for France (fascinating, and I thought another republic could be more useful) and more educational, less contentious I am familiar and comfortable with UK definitions and naming conventions. I have been doing this on a windows phone and no banner showed on my phone so I missed that warning and made changes to debate pages inappropriately sorry again. I am trying to be polite and respectful but realise due to inexperience my blundering is causing offence. I would of course understand if you delete this or ignore me not unreasonable in light of my blunders.
I hope not to offend others while learning the wiki ropes. Sorry and thank you.
:I wouldn't bother with any of that if I were you. As far as I can see you haven't been rude to any anybody. And if you ever are in the future it would probably be best to put in a one-liner saying sorry at the point where you did it. ::Nope, never noticed you being rude. You brought up a point, we responded, everyone was civil, the way it should be. Nothing particularly out of place there. == RfC Announce: Wikimedia referrer policy ==

In February of 2016 the Wikimedia foundation started sending information to all of the websites we link to that allow the owner of the website (or someone who hacks the website, or law enforcement with a search warrant / subpoena) to figure out what Wikipedia page the user was reading when they clicked on the external link.

The WMF is not bound by Wikipedia RfCs, but we can use an advisory-only RfC to decide what information, if any, we want to send to websites we link to and then put in a request to the WMF. I have posted such an advisory-only RfC, which may be found here:

Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)#RfC: Wikimedia referrer policy

Please comment so that we can determine the consensus of the Wikipedia community on this matter. --Guy Macon ([]) 21:32, 10 June 2017 (UTC)

FYI
we don't do it this way anymore. If you use the new "FYI no-fault" way (which requires the template made for that purpose) that's enough. :Wikipedia is the wrong place to go with anything original. There is a policy WP:OR which forbids editors from putting their original thoughts into articles. well, hi, again, how is my posts looking to you, as an editor. i tried to contact a few persons here in Romania to guide me with their advises

:I really am the wrong person, I'm not social, and this is the wrong place, it is an encyclopaedia. Romania has a good math tradition and I'm sure there'd be some sort of social site for amateur mathematicians there if you look a bit harder or ask around there. == Pings ==

Hi Dmcq. Just to let you know that this won't have pinged the other user, because notifications are only issued when you use that template at the same time as signing your post. See Wikipedia:Notifications#Triggering events. Cordless Larry ([]) 07:34, 29 September 2017 (UTC)

I was contacted out of the blue
Dmcq, I'm pinging a few people who may feel this is relevant. Take a look here https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Yamla&diff=prev&oldid=805700669. Springee ([]) 17:50, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
:Very possibly they are the same. I think Yamla can deal with it properly as they banned HughD and you've reasonable evidence there to check further with the suspected sockpuppet tools. Dmcq ([]) 11:08, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
::In reading through additional edits I'm seeing more evidence that this is a sock. I'm going to wait and see based on Yamla's reply. I might submit a SPI with additional information but the new user name isn't working on articles I would typically edit (and life outside of Wikipedia has drastically reduced my free to edit time). Springee ([]) 12:45, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
:::Okay I see. Thanks. Yes I wish some of those socks would get themselves a life outside Wikipedia. I'll wait and see what Yamla says too. Dmcq ([]) 13:29, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
::::Seriously. That way they could leave the Wikiobsession to serious regular editors!NewsAndEventsGuy ([]) 17:55, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
No surprise the check user was rejected. This was a problem when HughD was using a series of IP addresses. The search failed because the records aren't kept after so many months. It will be interesting to see where it goes. Springee ([]) 16:31, 22 October 2017 (UTC)

Removed discussion you participated in
I removed this discussion you participated in . While you did nothing wrong, I do not believe it is appropriate to randomly bring up comments by other named editors made elsewhere without providing any context or at least a wikilink, as the IP did. Especially since the IP presented it as if that comment reflected the editor's POV, whereas a quick look at the original discussion reveals this was clearly not the intention, and further this was already discussed at ANI and on Jimbo Wales talk page before where this misrepresentation was pointed out. There were various other ways to deal with this but if the IP wants to make such comments, I'll leave it up to them to fix it. == Re IP ==

I'm not saying it's not the refdesk troll or whoever's been posting those pics in the Trump article, I'm just not seeing enough to say that it is.

The IP I reverted was pushing the sort of pro-Trump POV that would be offended with how the Trump article was being vandalized.

Whoever's going after the passwords could just be looking at the active users list. Ian.thomson ([]) 19:24, 29 November 2018 (UTC)

:I don't know what they did at the Trump article but the password cracking just felt like the sort of thing they'd try and do. I'm a bit disappointed about the closure at WP:AN that there's not much they could do when there were a couple of suggestions in the discussion that could considerably ameliorate the situation about open proxies and password cracking attempts. I'm sure there's many users where many thousands of password attempts like there were on my username would lead to them being cracked. Dmcq ([]) 23:24, 29 November 2018 (UTC)
::The Trump article vandals were replacing his pic with something that rhymes with pic. I think they're also trying to hijack accounts but I was somewhat under the impression that they were just using password dumps and going after less active accounts. Early in A Child's Christmas in Wales the young Dylan and his friend Jim Prothero witness smoke pouring from Jim's home. After the conflagration has been extinguished Dylan writes that <blockquote>Nobody could have had a noisier Christmas Eve. And when the firemen turned off the hose and were standing in the wet, smoky room, Jim's Aunt, Miss. Prothero, came downstairs and peered in at them. Jim and I waited, very quietly, to hear what she would say to them. She said the right thing, always. She looked at the three tall firemen in their shining helmets, standing among the smoke and cinders and dissolving snowballs, and she said, "Would you like anything to read?"</blockquote> My thanks to you for your efforts to keep the 'pedia readable in case the firemen chose one of our articles :-) Best wishes to you and yours and happy editing in 2019. == Wikiproject Climate Change ?! ==

Hey,

tl;dr version: <br>I've been rooting through talk page archives (as I'm sometimes inclined to do :P), and saw you had once proposed to move WikiProject_Environment/Climate_change_task_force to its own Wikiproject. I'm all for it :) !

Long version: I read a Journal Article yesterday by a member of the Military History Wikiproject, and he talked about them ( Military History ) being a rather active group. That got me looking into that wikiproject, and into the Climate change task force as well. Reason for the last being that I've meant to start on some cleanup / reorganisation work on the Climate Change topic for a while now, but what with the controversy and regular challenging of material by (at least nigh on) deniers, I've been rather daunted by the task.

Now since I saw that you had once proposed to form such a Wikiproject, and are still active on the topic, and that User:Femkemilene has recently wanted to reinvigorate the task force, I thought it'd make sense to ping at least you two (maybe I'll write to some of the other actives as well...). I guess my question primarily is - would you want to participate ? But also, do you still think it'd make sense to have such a Wikiproject. (I'm happy to move forward the proposal myself, not expecting any work in that direction atm :P ).

Kind regards, Sean Heron ([]) 19:50, 23 June 2019 (UTC)
<br><small>(P.S. I'll point Femkemilene here as well, hoping you don't mind me abusing your talk page as a forum :P. ) </small>
: I think one small disadvantage of making climate change its own Wikiproject, is that it might possibly be more difficult to recruit help from the rest of the environment Wikiproject. Apart from that, I support any further attempts to build a stronger community here on Wikipedia to improve climate change articles :).
: About deniers. I don't think we should worry much about them. We have had all discussions before and now usually swiftly deal with them. The activists might sometimes be more of a problem. In my sentence-by-sentence checking of the global warming article, I saw quite a lot of people misreading sources in the direction of making them sound more alarming or certain in recent years. The older sources were quite often misused in the other direction: overly cautious.
: Because we're making this into a forum anyway, NewsAndEventsGuy made a good start of a proposal to reorganize the articles around this topic, from which the idea came to write the climate system article. == Cardinals ==

The cardinal bird was named for the Catholic cardinals. ←Baseball Bugs [] carrots→ 19:40, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
:So they are. Thanks. I'd removed that straight after as they weren't asking so you must have got it just in between but yes I should check better rather than just assume things like that it was after the color. Hm, I actually read on the etymology of cardinal some time ago but forgot. That's bad. Dmcq ([]) 19:45, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
::The naming of things is funny sometimes. The birds were named for the color used by the Catholic cardinals, and the St. Louis baseball club was also named for the color, and later adopted the cardinal bird as their symbol. And the word "cardinal" itself originally had nothing to do with colors. Which reminds me, since the Catholic church has cardinals, do they also have ordinals? :) ←Baseball Bugs [] carrots→ 02:37, 14 November 2019 (UTC)
:::There is a book of rites in the Catholic Church called the Ordinal, and the Anglican Ordinal is used in ordination services. But since cardinal comes from hinge how about Dr and Dame Hinge and Bracket instead? :-) Though I guess the humor of will past most most people by nowadays. ::::Very good! Some of the jokes are a little over my American head, but it's no worse than with other British comedy. :Well you can appeal the ruling by going to Wikipedia:Deletion review. I think the closer Bishonen was wrong in not following WP:LISTN as the notability of the list was clear from the reliable sources presented. It was not one of the made up lists in Wikipedia which are kept despite no sources showing notability. Even if it was considered a cross-categorization the guidelines for that say

::Non-encyclopedic cross-categorizations, such as "people from ethnic / cultural / religious group X employed by organization Y" or "restaurants specializing in food type X in city Y". Cross-categories such as these are not considered a sufficient basis for creating an article, unless the intersection of those categories is in some way a culturally significant phenomenon.

:And this certainly was a culturally significant phenomenon as shown by the very strong notability by being discussed in multiple reliable sources. That business is really there to stop people creating non-notable lists of their own devising. There is no way it should override notability guidelines. What I thought was also very iffy was then going on to say there was no prejudice against creating a list of climate change scientists who disagreed with the consensus, that would be a made up list uness some notability of the topic can be established.

:You can try if you like following that link and seeing what it says. However I don't think there is much hope for a reversal of the decision. AfD for all its stuff about !vote is dictated by numbers when you get to something like these numbers rather than policy and guidelines. The admins are mainly interested in keeping the peace and you can't expect them to sacrifice consensus when they see people all het up like at that AfD saying silly things.
