The Attorre family, made up of Susi Luca and Lucilla, resides in a villa on the outskirts of Rome. Susi teaches dance to overweight women, Luca is a free-lance journalist and Lucilla is a six-year-old girl with asthma. In the family there are some imbalances that often lead to quarrels, also due to the fact that Susi is unable to cope with her daughter's illness and to reconcile the various daily commitments. A babysitter, Mary Ann, a history-loving Irish student, is hired. Pierpaolo, the son Luca had with another woman, Azzurra, helps the family financially in order to ensure the right care for Lucilla. Marinoni, the doctor who takes care of the child, is attracted to Susi, who initially gives in to his attention. Mary Ann begins a relationship with Luca and becomes pregnant. She tells Susi, who doesn't seem to notice her husband's betrayal, and convinces her to have an abortion. Spectator of the vicissitudes of the Attorre family is the neighbor Perind (abbreviation of industrial expert). In the final scene Susi tries to apologize to him for the inconvenience caused by their complicated life, but Perind interrupts her by saying “I see you living, I envy you”. |
