On June 11, 2020, the court accepted three charges of "shooting, attempting to shoot, with intent to cause grievous bodily harm", "using a firearm or ammunition with reckless disregard for the safety of others", and "discharging or handling any firearm likely to injure or endanger any person", with a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. Mr. Hui said this is the first time a police officer has been prosecuted for police brutality and the use of force, and he believes the verdict is significant.
