Thank you for your support and nomination

Thank you for your support in the RfA on my behalf. It is an honor to have received your expression of confidence. To be chosen as an administrator requires a high level of confidence by a broad section of the community. Although I received a great deal of support, at this time I do not hold the level of confidence required, and the RfA did not pass. It is my wish that I will continue to deserve your confidence. Sincerely, --BostonMA talk 18:52, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Redvers, I hope that I did not do too many things to disappoint you. Hope you are feeling better soon. --BostonMA talk 18:52, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dmcdevit and IP blocking

Hi Redvers -- I am concerned about the auto-block (still not lifted) implemented by Dmcdevit against an IP address. It is the IP of a café in Chicago with a huge number of potential wikipedia contributors and Dmcdevit has it on a six month block even though I cannot see any user contributions from the IP in question. I am also concerned that Dmcdevit has been moving very fast and loose with IP blocks in general (just looking at his talk page with numerous examples of inadvertant blocks.)

Could you:

  1. please unblock the IP in question as soon as possible?
  2. take a look at Dmcdevit's IP blocking and see if you think it is reasonable? To me it seems to be a net detriment to the project right now.

Just to be clear, I have nothing against Dmcdevit (actually, I think I voted for him on RfA!). I am just worried that all of this IP blocking is a problem and should maybe be nipped in the bud with less stringent and more focused IP blocks (hours, not months). I can't believe you would allow an indefinite block to remain on a newly registered user who claims to have only vandalized twice. I know I must be missing something, because the history shows no vandalism. --ElectricEye (talk) 17:51, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy delete denial

Hi, I have been trying to clean up some unneeded redirects and you said in an edit summary (for Olympic medalists in sailing): Please orphan a redirect before asking for a speedy deletion.. The only references are to user talk pages -- do those matter? Thanks, Andrwsc 21:43, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Sameh Abdalla El Alaily

Hi,
Can you please undelete the article Sameh Abdallah El Alaily, as it is my fathers birthday present.
I'm not putting any one here, look in the discussion page, and you'll find links to some of his work. most of these are about presentations he made in Europe(Spain, Italy, Portugal..ect) and Canada.
He was the Dean in Cairo University. He's the Goveror's consultant. He worked with the UNISCO in restoring old buildings. and he's a member of Culture Supreme Council, committee of architecture. He worked as an architect for over 41 years now.
Please respond even if you wont undelete it telling me why.
Thanks a lot

My successful unblock

Thanks for your help in my unblock. Would have thanked you when you made the request for the blocker to look at it but obviously Wikipedia wouldn't let me. Cheers! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by SenorKristobbal (talkcontribs).

Your comments on Sdedeo's talk page

Hi, I just happened to read your comments on Sdedeo's talk page. I really think that you should honestly evaluate the tone of your response: it seems to me that while Sdedeo was unfailingly polite, and that while he was assuming and acting in good faith, that your response came off as condescending. In particular: "So, please, continue to make noises that are beginning to sound like rants about admin abuse if you want (and sadly they are sounding like that). You're entitled to do so, and, whilst it gains you no sympathy at all, I appreciate that you feel better from it." This is no way to treat a longtime, valued, and civil contributor. The stresses of editing, and particularly the Wikipedia bureacracy, irritate us all from time to time. That's no reason to be brusque, though. –Joke 02:51, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am assuming good faith, thank you. I don't have the slightest doubt that you too are acting in good faith and with the best interests of Wikipedia in mind. Nonetheless, I believe that your dismissive tone was unwarranted. Thanks. –Joke 16:59, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replied again - no dismissive tone, quite the reverse, but spun that way (successfully) by an angry user. Matter closed. REDVEЯS 20:23, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My talk page header

I'm sorry for repeatedly bugging you like this, but if you don't mind, could you give me some tips on creating a personal talk page header using my own border. Just some pointers is all! Thanks! (SUDUSER)85 15:28, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You appear to have read Cwiki's remark :i'm not unblocked because i'm not inclined to edit as if he has said that he wants to be unblocked so that he can not edit. That is not what he is saying. In the structure of justifying the blocking of Cwiki, it was noted that edits by that account were sparse. Cwiki is thus objecting to that part of the justificatory structure. Now, I have not followed the controversy around Cwiki well enough to know whether he should or should not be blocked, but I ask you to review your review. —12.72.70.162 00:39, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Everywhere Girl

Hello,

My name is Paul Hales. I am news editor of the INQUIRER, a publiction you seem to be familiar with. I notice you removed the latest listing of the Everywhere Girl from your pages and accuse staff of the INQUIRER of posting these fairy tales in the first place.

As I am about to write yet another story about this whole sorry affair, I wonder if you might care to comment on your actions or indeed your libellous comment.

Many thanks,

Paul Hales News Editor The INQUIRER www.theinquirer.net

Assume good faith

As an editor of Wikipedia, and especially one with administrative rights, you are expected to follow Wikipedia guidelines. As you should know, one such guideline is Wikipedia:Assume good faith. I argue that your comment Protected Everywhere girl: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Everywhere Girl (2nd nomination) and constant recreation by webzine "The Inquirer" insisting that the article in question was created by the authors of The Inquirer is not based on good faith. The further removal of Paul Hales's message on your talk page with the comment Revert legal threat/trolling also seems hostile. While I don't expect of you to respond to Paul Hales's above comment, the least you could do is leave it there and not simply assume it is "trolling". I also argue that it is certainly not a "legal threat". Although he called your remark "libellous", he made no indication of actually taking any legal actions against Wikipedia.

Please do your duty as an admin and be impartial.--213.46.128.161 16:58, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I second that. Please restore the article. If Wikipedia has really so bad storage issues, I have an old 8GB drive in the drawer that I am willing to donate. That should be more then enough to hold this article. DLX 19:01, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm also interested to hear your reasons for deletion / protection. The talkpage for the Everywhere girl is full of comments asking for its resurrection. Somebody there points out that the term "Everywhere Girl" now has 6M hits on Google, and that several news-sources are carrying the current story about wiki-censorship, which is how I ended up on this page. If you cannot provide good reasons for deletion then please reinstate the page. 62.56.104.149 02:22, 19 January 2007 (UTC) <-- Forgot to login Amoss 02:24, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
