Alithya is a North American company specializing in digital strategy and technologies. Alithya is the second largest company in its industry in Canada, with a turnover of $279 USD. The company employs over 3,000 people in Canada, the United States and Europe[1],[2].

History

Alithya was established in 1992 under the leadership of founder Ghyslain Rivard, with the help of a dozen information technology employees from Mouvement Desjardins. Its original name was CIA. In 2020, Alithya was selected by Nemours Children's Hospital, one of the largest of its kind in the U.S., to implement Oracle cloud services there. Its merger with Edgewater, which specializes in enterprise systems, and its acquisition of Travercent, which specializes in healthcare, gave Alithya the tools to get this contract.[3]

Edgewater Technology

Edgewater Technology became part of the Alithya Group in November 2018 and now operates under that name.[4] Prior to that, Edgewater Technology was a Massachusetts-based, publicly traded business (NASDAQ: EDGW) and IT consulting firm with an international reach. It was founded in 1992 by Shirley Singleton and David Clancey. Edgewater was ranked 89th in the Top Performing Public Companies in Massachusetts in 2013 by The Boston Globe’s Annual Globe 100.[5] Edgewater had three divisions that operated independently; Edgewater Consulting, Edgewater Ranzal, and Edgewater Fullscope.

In April 2004, Edgewater Technology, Inc. nominated Paul Guzzi, the President and chief executive officer of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, to serve on board of directors.[6] In December 2005, Edgewater Technology, Inc. appointed Nancy Leaming, the president and chief executive officer for Tufts Health Plan, to serve on board of directors.[7] In November 2010, Edgewater Ranzal opened an office in London UK.[8] In June 2012, Edgewater was invited to participate in the NASDAQ closing ceremony to celebrate its 20th anniversary.[9]

Other acquisitions

Following the acquisition of Edgewater, R3D and other firms, as well as high volatility on the stock market, six Canadian IT analysts suggest that Alithya Group might post a final loss in 2022, before turning a profit in 2023.[10] This profit is estimated at CA$8.3 million. In 2018, Alithya was officially listed on the TSX and NASDAQ, under the ALYA ticker symbol.

Alithya is a company that has grown through their acquisitions.[11]. Following the acquisition of Edgewater, 35% of Alithya’s current revenue came from the U.S. Simultaneously, the company raised C$52.8 million through the issuance of 11,736,055 subscription receipts.[12]
