Advertising. RickK 22:57, Jul 4, 2004 (UTC)

I don't agree. I think my article is interesting because probably not that many people know about third-party call centers. I work at the Victoria center, and really don't care whether West gets more or less business or not. How is that advertising? ntm 22:34, Jul 4, 2004

  • Simple. It's advertising because the company is (a) non-notable beyond Victoria and Reno and (b) it's written like an advertisement, not like an encyclopedia entry. No offense, but these kinds of entries get deleted all the time. - Lucky 6.9 23:43, 4 Jul 2004 (UTC)
    • Non-notable? We're talking about a pretty large corporation here, with over 30 call centers worldwide. I don't have any personal interest in the company besides the fact that I work for them, and I don't see any other way to describe it other than how I described it. Saying that this is an advertisement is comparable to this: I walked into a grocery store and they had a wide selection of different bulk foods. Is this advertising, or simply describing how something is? ntm 23:10, Jul 4, 2004
  • Uncertain as to vote, but as I live in Victoria, I can say that they have a fairly major presence in the tech industry, simply due to the fact that they are the only large call centre in Victoria. They are a pretty large company, and I believe that they handle some of AT&T's (or whatever they are calling themselves this week) service calls. • OK, I've added three paragraphs to the top that I believe are more NPOV/encyclopedic, from info from hoovers.com, business.com, and west.com (note all three believe the current name is West Corporation, so if the article is kept, it should apparently be moved there). That said, no vote--may be too big for me to vote delete, but I won't lose any sleep if it gets deleted, so I don't want to vote keep. FWIW, note that it is #3 in the market for its core services (according to hoovers), and we don't have articles for numbers 1, 2, and 4. Niteowlneils 02:01, 5 Jul 2004 (UTC)
    • BTW, we do already educate people about call centers in general. Niteowlneils 02:01, 5 Jul 2004 (UTC)
    • I was considering calling it "West Corporation" but I thought that because 1) Teleservices is more indicative of what the business does and 2) that's what's printed on my paychecks it would make it easier to figure out what they actually do. In addition, West employs the largest amount of people in one given location with the exception of the provincial government, employing approximately 0.4% of the population of Greater Victoria (Approx. 300,000 people). • Keep. Even if the company doesn't seem that notable overall, it's certainly locally notable. Aren't we trying to encourage local interest wiki entries? Rhymeless 02:24, 5 Jul 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep, seems OK now. Move it to the company's official name though (don't worry Ntm, "West Teleservices" will redirect to the article). —Stormie 04:16, Jul 5, 2004 (UTC)
  • Terrific rewrite. Keep. - Lucky 6.9 07:19, 5 Jul 2004 (UTC)
