Basic Facts

Kaligagan Island is a small uninhabited island located in the Krenitzin and Aleutian Islands of western Alaska. It lies between Tigalda Island and Ugamak Island, also in Alaska.

Climate

The climate of the Aleutian area is very harsh, usually being violently cold, windy, foggy, and stormy. Northern shores of the islands are generally seen as less harsh than the south.

History

The island was named in 1852 by the Russian navy captain Mikhail Tebenkov. The area has also been home to Aleuts for many centuries.
