Ollie & Scoops is an American comedy animated web series created by animator and writer Nico Colaleo.[1] Colaleo is known for creating Too Loud for DreamWorksTV[2][3][4] and has been working in the animation field since at least 2011.[5][6][7]

Premise

The series follows Ollie, a 9-year-old girl, who is the only human being who can communicate with cats. She and scoops go on adventures whether at home, school, in their neighborhood or to the underground cat city, Catlifornia.

Characters

Main characters

  • Ollie (voiced by Kimmy Robertson[8][9]) - The protagonist of the series and a young girl. She looks out for Scoops, her cat friend, but also wants to enjoy herself.
  • Scoops (voiced by Eric Bauza[10]) - The cat friend of Ollie. Known fully as Scoopleton P. Scoopsworth, he has known Ollie since she was a little child, is helpful, lovable, and showoff a bit.

Supporting characters

  • Terry Bumble (voiced by Mike Stoklasa[11]) - A young man has pale skin, orange hair, braces, and blue green eyes.
  • Dougie (voiced by Dana Snyder[12] - A cat who has has silver fur and a collar with a pink heart on it.
  • Miss Bivins (voiced by Kelsy Abbott) - A teacher who has a crush on Wendy Wilhippleworth and is Ollie's 4th grade teacher at Davis Elementary.
  • Wendy Wilhippleworth (voiced by Rebeka Thomas[13]) - a science teacher at Ollie's school
  • Biscuits (voiced by Tiana Camacho[14]) - A cat that Scoops has a crush on
  • Merle (voiced by Rich Evans[15]) - He is a sleazy and canaving cat who appears in any episodes
  • Brunk (voiced by Mike Stoklasa[11]) - A cat with orange fur who is the right-hand man of Merle.
  • Mayor Scrumpy (voiced by Nico Colaleo[16]) - A cat with sky blue fur and a stamp saying "Mayor."
  • Poopsie St. Pierre (voiced by Vivienne Medrano[16]) - A flirty and romantic type of cat.
  • Dan Dipple (voiced by Brock Baker[17]) - A cat with orange skin and goldish teeth who appears in a few episodes.
  • Hoagie (voiced by Matt Brailey[18]) - A cat with dark blue fur which is a bit clumsy on his end.
  • Rudy (voiced by Adam McArthur[19][20]) - A cat with red fur which can sometimes act cool and swave sometimes.
  • Julia Goldburger (voiced by Grey Griffin[21]) - A rude and demanding girl who is a minor antagonist in the series.
  • Carl (voiced by Rachael Russakoff[22]) - A kid with brown skin and dark brown hair who seems to be a normal kid, and may have a crush on Ollie.

Other characters

  • Brother Whiskers (voiced by JD Ryznar[11] - A cat who appears in the episode "Warm Cream"
  • Brother Puddles (voiced by Rich Evans[11]) - A cat who, like Whiskers, appears in the episode "Warm Cream"
  • Creepy Girl (voiced by Mara Wilson[23]) - A new pal of Ollie who debuts in a two-part episode
  • Bad Tempered Cinema Geek (voiced by James Rolfe[19])
  • Cuddles (voiced by Candi Milo[24]) - A cat with pink fur which seems to have a cute personality.

Production and release

In 2019, the series began airing on YouTube.[25] Natasha Weir worked as an illustrator and character designer, while Nicole Hardy did animation work on the series, using Adobe Animate CC.[26][27][28] Colaleo created the series, but also directs and produces it.[29]

In February 2021, Colaleo shared with Terry Ibele, on his Animation Industry Podcast, about his job, how he started Ollie & Scoops, and the resources it takes to create each episode.[3][30]

Reception

The series was received positively. One reviewer praised the voice cast and described the show as a "hidden gem of a series."[31]
