On 12 August 2021, a mass shooting occurred in the Keyham area of Plymouth, Devon, England, UK. Six people were killed, including the suspect Jake Davison.[2]
Shooting and response
At 18:12 BST on 12 August 2021,[3] the South Western Ambulance Service were alerted to an incident in Biddick Drive,[4] a residential street in the Keyham area of Plymouth, Devon.[5][6] They responded with a significant number of resources, including hazardous area response teams, multiple ambulances, four air ambulances, multiple doctors and senior paramedics.[7][3]
Responding officers found two women and two men dead. Another man, believed to be the shooter, was also discovered dead at the scene. Police believe they all died from gunshot wounds. A woman who was treated at the scene for gunshot wounds later died in hospital.[8] Devon and Cornwall Police described the events as a "serious firearms incident" and that there were multiple fatalities and injuries.[4] At 21:34, Devon and Cornwall Police reported that they believed the incident to be contained.[9]
Reactions
On Twitter, Home Secretary Priti Patel described the incident as shocking and said she had spoken with the Chief Constable of Devon and Cornwall Police.[3] Local MPs Luke Pollard and Johnny Mercer also tweeted, with Pollard referring to the news as really worrying and Mercer calling it a serious and tragic incident.[7]
